Excellent in every way. Lunch on the Terrace with triple cooked chips (exceptional), lobster roll and douro rose, in the sunshine, was brilliant. Service was perfect. I'd booked a gourmet break and they gave me an upgraded room with air con, balcony, wow! The evening meal was outstanding especially the scallops and desert. I can't recommend it highly enough. I was lucky with the weather but it was a bargain too. A lovely spot to be in.
Visited back in October with my partner and his parents for lunch. The staff and the service were incredible, but the food was a little disappointing. I had carpaccio to start, and found the delicate taste of the raw beef was overwhelmed by the smoked bone marrow crumb though the fish we had was the best we’ve tried. I believe I had a trio of pork for my main course, and we all found that to be overcooked and dry. The dessert was a take on a jam roly poly, and again we found the sponge to be a touch too dry and the jam topping too sour the staff were apologetic and offered us a tour of the kitchen, but for the price we paid we all left feeling rather disappointed.
We had a lovely stay but it is a bit rough around the edges! We dined and had the tasting menu, and the food was fantastic. The service however leaves a lot to be desired. We were asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to our dinner reservation… and then waited at least 15 minutes to be served a drink. The staff also seemed to have preset conversational questions to ask like ‘what was your favourite dish’ but all the conversation felt forced and unfriendly, and our greeting on arrival was the opposite of welcoming (as I noted in another review). Overall a nice night away due to the food but wouldn’t recommend for a special occasion
Just visited Northcote and it was beautiful food but I have to add I was so impressed with the lovely waiter Harry! Wow such asset to the restaurant service by a country mile he outshined in knowledge and approachability.
I hope this doesn’t come across as a brag, I’ve been lucky enough to eat at several Michelin starred restaurants in the north of England over the past year. I was given a voucher for lunch for two here by a couple of friends who know I like my food for my 60th birthday last year. I really enjoyed the experience. The food is as good as you’d expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. What set it apart though in my opinion was the quality of service. It was a lot less stuffy than most Michelin starred restaurants, the staff all had personalities interacted rather than just telling you what you were about to eat its provenance. Personally I like that it made for a really enjoyable memorable experience.
