Chatkhara - Lambeth
Menu
Here you will find the menu of Chatkhara in Lambeth. At the moment, there are 10 menus and drinks on the menu.
Chatkhara exhibits a fascinating dichotomy in its culinary offerings. While some patrons laud its affordable prices, generous portion sizes, and delicious flavors—particularly praising dishes like butter chicken and mutton biryani—others have reported a sharp decline in quality. Complaints emerged about stale, excessively oily meals and poorly executed standard dishes, leading to disappointment for repeat customers. The restaurant’s welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff stand out positively amidst the critiques. Ultimately, Chatkhara’s potential is evident, but inconsistent preparations may leave diners wary and longing for the vibrancy of its earlier days.

The interior of the restaurant is impressive and the food was good (a bit oily, but that's typical of Indian cuisine). The dishes were delicious and it's a plus that everything is halal. I would like to express my gratitude to the friendly staff who not only welcomed me warmly but also gave me complimentary naan bread twice. View all feedback.
What Jamiehutton dislikes about Chatkhara:
The curry sandwich was extremely flavorless and the employees were impolite and uninterested in receiving any criticism. I have serious doubts about the longevity of this new management, especially since the restaurant was nearly empty. It is incredibly disappointing considering how delicious the food used to be. I ordered takeout three weeks ago and it was decent, but when I ordered the same meal on 11.11.19, it was awful. The curry didn't taste like curry at all, just like chili and garlic. The Bombay potato was watery and had no flavor. The portion of pakora was disappointing and not worth the money. I was disappointed with how little filling there was, only finding tiny slivers of potato here and there. It's a shame because they have the potential to do much better.
I 'm new ish) to the area and have always seen this place with people in it. So went to go and get some food from them at 11pm ish) once I got home tonight. I ordered a Korma, Pilau rice and garlic naan. The pilau rice was nice but needed a sauce Like most do) so I opened up the box of the Korma and you could see oil sitting in the far side of the container floating. I then took a spoonful from the other side where it looked more like I 'd expect and the sauce was very watery and not creamy as you 'd expect a korma to be) i took a brief taste and didn 't enjoy it at all and threw the food in the bin. Along with the rice. The naan on the other hand Of which was the only thing freshly made to order) was rather nice, hence the two stars. It 's worth noting that this place basically had everything pre-made and lade out in a fridge cabinet like you get at subway and then puts stuff in containers and chucks into a microwave. For that, I shouldn 't have really expected any better, especially based on the quantities they had and how much variety they actually had. I struggle to understand why this place is so busy, the price is cheap and service was quick for me but I could have got a ready meal Indian for less and better quality.
I have been to this restaurant several times, and once during each trip to London. The quality of food used to be good. This time it was a totally different experience. It seems that the management had changed and one could feel it. The food was not fresh. We had specially gone there for the Biryani, the order was taken and once the rest of the food was served they said that they did not have the Biryani. We left without consuming most of the food ordered. The fried vegetable rice tasted stale, when asked if these were old they said they were made today (this at 9 PM in the evening). This place is struck of my list.
