We reserved a table for three people at 4.00pm. Upon arrival we waited to be told which was our table. Having been ignored for a while, we were told to take any table out there . Having seated ourselves, my friend was told to move as it was a reserved table. She declined and explained we had a reservation and had been told to take any table. I then ordered two pints of shandy they were poured as half lemonade and half lager. Promptly charged for two pints of Hells Lager. When I queried the £14 I was told not to ask him about the price with a shrug of the shoulders. Huge queues for the toilets which were very unclean. There used to be more toilets downstairs but these were closed off. Have to say a really underwhelming experience service wise and come away feeling fleeced. The whole place felt tired, unloved and with an air of disinterested weariness from the staff. Never met a seven quid shandy before and won 't be hurrying back.
Hard to find with directions. We have come here fir several years before a play. But the name had changed from benugo to BFI Bar and kitchen. It is around the corner OFF the eater front where the bfi restaurant is. Very confusing. Food was good. Lighting was terrible. They moved one of the 4 table lamps from our table to another so the people could read the menu. A temporary situation we were told.
I was with friends who were treating me so I could not complain at the time. I chose a main course of hake. It came in a puddle of what appeared to be and tasted like yoghurt with a handful of potatoes that tasted stale. I have never posted a bad review of a restaurant before, I usually just chalk it up to experience but this was such nasty food, I was shocked by it. Its such a shame because the film is the main event and the location is great, diners just want something simple cooked with care .
We were pleasently surprised by this cool restaurant, 'cool ' meaning airconditioned a relief after trotting about in London at 38 degrees Celcius. Ceasar salad delicious, drinks a bit slow, overly kind waiter. After lunch it was two steps to the BFI shop, with a big collection Dvd 's and gifts. Modern, new building, clean toilets downstairs. All in all I recommend it!
