What User doesn't like about Happy Garden:
I attempted to place an order by phone, but was informed that the restaurant was too busy to take my order. Additionally, I have discovered that they reuse scraped-off fried rice for other customers. I will not be dining here again. Furthermore, I have learned that when customers tip the servers, the management takes the tips and tells the servers to find another job if they do not like it. Not being a true fan of Asian food, this place changed my mind. Great, friendly staff and amazing food.
The waitstaff were so friendly! The food was delicious!! Great stop. Will definitely go again when passing through Lamar
Great food, our waiter was very polite even though he was the only one doin anything. He still was respectful.
Reading these positive reviews had me feeling like I was missing something, but I have to say, this is some of the worst Chinese food I’ve ever eaten (and I lived in China for a year). This is your typical, Americanized version of Chinese food, so comparisons to the food found in China is unfair. That said, compared to other Americanized chinese restaurants here in the USA, this was still really bad.The “egg rolls” would be called spring rolls anywhere else, because they were in paper-thin spring roll dough rather than the thicker and more textured egg roll dough. These “egg rolls” were soggy and tasted like nothing I’ve ever tasted before (not a compliment). The fried rice has devoid of veggies, egg and other seasonings, which in and of itself isn’t unforgivable if it weren’t for the fact that that the rice wasn’t flipped enough in the wok, so the outer regions of the rice were lightly fried and coated with soy sauce, while the inside regions were literally just white rice. To add insult to injury, the staff was rude and disinterested. On a more positive note, their garlic chicken wasn’t half-bad, although it wasn’t nearly as spicy as it should have been given this is supposed to be a spicy dish. Still, not enough to salvage what was otherwise a pretty awful dining experience. Definitely regret coming here and certainly wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
