Lake Cathie Tavern

Under new management, Lake Cathie Tavern has a pleasant ambience for adults or families wanting a reasonably price, good quality meal. For the sports minded, there are numerous large TV screens showing a wide variety of sporting events. Clean, fresh smelling venue - no stale beer odours here!

After hearing so many great reviews from locals about a fab new chef & a fantastic new menu we thought we'd give our local a try (never been game before)! Now, I'm not sure if the 'fabulous new chef' was away/not working on this particular Saturday night we visited but I must say we were very disappointed. For one the menu was embarrassing- bangers & mash, schnitzel, parmy, steak, seafood basket (not available), only 3 options for the kids & about 4 or 5 different burgers. Terrible for a dinner menu. I went for the parmy with chips & veg. The veg had been sitting in a bain marie so were soggy & mushy. The parmy was ok & the chips were nothing special. My daughters burger was nice but my sons schnitzel was overdone & chewy. Won't be heading back in a hurry until I can see a better menu on their Facebook page. A major refurb would also go a long way in encouraging people to visit. So much potential!! On a positive note the staff were very friendly. Let's hope for an improvement next time

Had lunch here today...they are advertising a new chef & menu...the food was good. Decor is very dated and tired. The number flies in the bar/restaurant area were very annoying. There is little distinction between the "restaurant area" and the public bar, probably not great for kids. Would be nice to have an outside eating area. Staff friendly.

We were staying nearby in late March, 6 adults and 4 children. Our expectations were not overly high as the decor is rather ordinary, but we were pleasantly surprised by both the high quality of the food, at a reasonable price and the friendly service. So much so that we went back another two times. We tried most dishes on the menu. If staying at Lake Cathie, would recommend.

The new menu at Lake Cathie Tavern is excellent value and great local produce???????? The new Chef has a $10 lunch special, daily blackboard specials and much more!
