Sugar Cane is a great little restaurant with wonderful, tasty and interesting food, and very good wait staff. Located in downtown Lahaina overlooking the water, this is a great place to eat. It is not crowded...yet...and we have Always been happy with every aspect of the place. It's location on the second floor above a gallery may make it a little less noticeable, but there are plenty of good things to recommend this... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Sugar Cane Maui:
Moreover, they ran out of pork dishes, so anything with pork was off the menu. It was also hot inside, and our server mentioned that she didn’t understand why the air conditioning wasn't turned on. Maybe that’s part of the reason why so few people were dining there? I really think this place could go out of business if they don’t make some changes soon! It’s a beautiful location and nicely decorated inside, but they... View all feedback.
Great setting for sunset views! Live music was really good and not intrusive to dinner talk.
So disappointed in this place. We showed up on a Sat night and it was 80% empty, which wasn't a good sign. We had even called ahead, it was odd our table was ready for 12 considering there was maybe 6 people in the restaurant. The poor server seemed to be by herself...so we don't blame her, just the management. She did all she could, but you could tell the support was lacking. She was our hottest, server and bar tender. We wondered if she had to cook the food too. The service then was slow, again I don't blame our server...but it all was a struggle from there. They were out of pork, so anything with pork wasn't an option. Plus it was hot inside, she mentioned she didn't understand why they don't turn on the air more?! Well, maybe that's part of why no ones eating there?! I predict this place will be out of business soon, if they don't wake up! Sad, it's a nice location, well set up on the inside. They just need to revamp the menu, and increase the service levels, not to mention, turn up the Ac or at least add more fans.
Everything we got ordered was perfect. Great live music to go along with our meal. Amazing
We really wanted to like this place. It is located above a gallery in the old Famous Dave 's spot. Gorgeous view, but unless you 're seated on the lanai it is stiflingly warm with poor air circulation. Despite what we had read, our server informed us that the restaurant is not new but that it 's taken a year or so to figure out their menu, etc. (um, ok.... Service was great and gave us the pick of any table in the house, as we were the only patrons there at 5:30 pm with no other diners present even when we left around 6:30 pm. Our server was very attentive and nice. Specialty drinks were ok. Keiki menu pizza was unusual, prepared with what looked like ketchup and American cheese. (Our pizza-loving child wouldn 't eat it. appetizers (pork belly, Brussels sprouts were delicious, but presentation was sloppy. Fish special (crab-encrusted opakapaka sounded incredible, but arrived overdone with gummy topping all swimming in a too-sweet spicy (not sauce with under seasoned pohole ferns on the side. Perhaps this would be a great place to sit at the bar to enjoy draught beers and tapas... and if there was some liveliness to the atmosphere. Hopefully, they 'll have it together soon.
Was expecting more. The staff was friendly , if you was wonderful the food was OK. I recommend sticking to the fish for an entrée. The brussels sprouts and edamame were delicious.
