As I was staying two days in the city, I boo... read more I came across Backmulde after checking Michelin Guide, where I noticed this restaurant was rated as "Bib Gourmand". As I was staying two days in the city, I booked a table there. I had a three-course menu: Salmon Tartar, Loup de Mer with vegetables and a Marillenknödel with Pistachio sauce. All of them were nicely prepared and presented. The service was very professional and attentive.

Some reviewers have said he is too friendly - he is definitely jovial & outgoing, and genuinely enjoys a chat, but he was not intrusive at all. If you want discrete service that you hardly notice, then fair enough this is not it - but I prefer it like this. The food was absolutely outstanding. The chef plans and executes complex dishes that taste amazing but aren't overly fussy - just beautiful flavour combinations that melt together in your mouth. Our host suggested a few wines and we tried a local German red, which was beautiful and complimented the lamb particularly well. It was not busy when we went and the food took a while to come out - not hours, but there was a wait. Don't go if you're in a hurry, and maybe pick less busy times - I've heard it can be very slow at peak hours. But I'd recommend you take the time - just sit back, enjoy the fine wine, relax and enjoy. It's not the cheapest restaurant in town but it is absolutely top quality, and good value for money in my opinion. We went a la carte and it was about 70 euros pp for mains, desserts, an aperitif (gorgeous bubbly rose) each and a bottle of excellent wine, including a good tip. Lovely 'amuse bouche' and bread were on the house.

There's absolutely nothing to complain about! I'd love to come back again and I'm already looking forward to the next time!

The atmosphere was very cozy, and the service was friendly, relaxed, and attentive. The recommendations were spot on. The food was truly exceptional. It's definitely worth paying a little more for.
