We have had a 2nd home in the region for 21 years, and have tried almost all restaurants for miles around. This used to be a seriously starred place, with prices and pretensions to match fine for a very special occasion, but too much for regular...visits. It now retains a high level of classic French cuisine with more modest prices basic menu at €25 is brilliant, and the wine prices are reasonable so about €75 for tw... View all feedback.
What Burghard Krug doesn't like about L'Auberge Bretonne:
fantastic eating too very cheap trips. small menu, because everything is fresh and usually locally made with very cleverly thought-out diners. there is no point in telling them in detail how good our meal was because tomorrow the menu will be completely different. If they are somewhere in a fifty kilometers long drive from la roche bernard, they have to eat here. View all feedback.
Excellent meal, devised by a Michelin star chef. Beautiful flavours. Very good wine list. Amazing value for money.
Great food, lovely dining room, but very formal. Attention to detail was excellent. Staff very attentive
My wife raved about this restaurant due to previous experiences there, so it was meant to be one (admittedly of several) of the culinary highlights of our recent visit to Brittany. It wasn 't at all bad, but it didn 't live up to the price tag....We chose the 'Menu inspiration du chef ', and so let them choose for us. We had John Dory and rhubarb (yes, really). Good, well executed, but I really felt that the chef was being a bit too clever. Other courses were fine. Then, what should have been the piece de resistance was the biggest let-down: a fillet of beef that was unforgivably tough. The usual slick service you 'd expect in a French restaurant, and, sitting near the herb-garden in the courtyard, a pleasant place to eat. A decent wine list with surprisingly good prices. However, it was the most expensive meal of our fortnight in Brittany, yet it only just scrapes into the top-five.
We stayed one night on our way back to Calais after a driving holiday round France. Very clean, comfortable and welcoming. Also extremely good value although eating in the restaurant would probably be pricey. La Roche Bernard is a lovely place and the market on...Wednesday morning is right outside walk down the hill and turn left to find the food area of the market. We would most certainly return if in the area again.
4 of us had a lovely meal here this week, we were not disappointed. The bon bouche trio made delicious tasty appetisers. I then had oysters done with an imaginative relish that really added to the taste whilst not masking the fresh oysters. My main...was lamb chops green beans, hardly a fair description of the most succulent lamb and delicious incredible accompaniment. I finished with cheese but my fellow diners has sweet dishes which left them beaming in delight. This was all washed down with a fantastic bottle of claret from their well-stocked cellar. Another excellent evening at this charming “secret” restaurant with the most imaginative chef that we all can’t wait to return to. If you wish to stay the night it is also a great hotel. Thoroughly recommended as a special treat.
