I left Aye Amigo feeling great! I can’t quite remember the details, but the service and food were fantastic, and I definitely plan to come back. The oxtail and lomo saltado were both delicious, and the triple leches cake paired with the Cafe Cubano made for a perfect ending to our meal. View all feedback.
What Annabelle H doesn't like about Isla Cuban-latin Kitchen And Rum:
I ordered empanadas and fries, as I had been craving empanadas for a while. The waiter mentioned there would be four, but I only received three, which was disappointing. However, the empanadas were delicious, filled with beef, and the fries tasted fresh, though they were only slightly larger than a small fry from McDonald's.
Would I return? I'm uncertain. The food wasn't bad at all, but I really wish the place had... View all feedback.
I went here for Father's Day because I really wanted to try their Tres Leches cake. And, it did not disappoint. The cake came with a puddle of sauce and as I ate it, the cake would keep absorbing it, adding more and more flavor. I also tried their Ox Tail dish which was excellent. It came with rice beans and plantains. Yum!
So I tried this place two times, not for a dine-in experience as most of the time is fully booked, but to take home. They have very friendly staff and the place looks great though. My review is about the food I had. Both times, I wasn't impressed. The chicken fricasé sauce had an overwhelming tomato paste flavor, so I assume no fresh tomatoes were used, the beans and rice were just ok. I wanted to give this place a second chance later and I had the garlic shrimp mofongo, very bland and just overall an ok dish. I've had similar dishes at other local cuban restaurants that were way better, second disappointment. I doubt I would go back again.
It was our family's first time trying this place and I must say it was amazing! Both the food and customer service were top notch. All the dishes we ordered including appetizers and dessert were all so flavorful and so good! Our server Elizabeth was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. She made great recommendations and helped us select some great food. She was knowledgeable about the menu and familiar with each dish which was so helpful for a first timer. The hostess that seated us Kaitlyn, was friendly helpful and sweet. She listened to us and made us feel like important customers. Our water and drinks never went empty! This is so important. A lot of places have good food but lack the customer service aspect. This place does NOT disappoint. Lastly, for those looking to try this place, I highly suggest making a reservation in advance otherwise the wait can be long. They seemed to seat their reservations quickly.
This was my second time dining here and I must say the food did not disappoint. We did have a rough start though. We had a 7PM reservation and we sat down at 7:03 p.m. but it seems like we were forgotten about for 20 minutes. Someone finally approached us who was not our server, to ask if we had placed our drink order. We said no our drink order nor or food order was ever taken. The server apologized and took our order. The food arrived shortly after. I had the chicharrón de pollo and mom had the Fricasee de pollo . We both enjoyed our dishes and had plenty to take home. There was music playing throughout the evening but at some point it became too much because it was hard to hear ourselves or the servers. We were sitting inside but for some reason towards the end of our dinning experience we started to smell cigar smoke seeping from outside. The food was great and ambiance felt like what I would imagine Cuba to be like. It was a Friday night and it was definitely crowded. We would go again for the food but perhaps on a less busy hour and not a Friday.
Just happened upon this place on Yelp and I am SO glad I did! Parking is easy but finding this in the area was somehow tricky- likely user error on our parts lol. Met a girlfriend to celebrate a late bday so spirits were high but so were expectations. I was sat right away and with the assistance of a very attentive server, ordered a delicious specialty cocktail from a drink menu that will keep me coming back for sure. Plantain chips with garlic to start- fantastic. Live music being set up- a wonderful surprise! We ordered the Lomo Saltado a fried chicken specialty entree. I also ordered extra plantains bc why not?! Food was amazing, and it isn't something you can get often which makes this find so special. Would recommend for a date spot. Great drinks, entertainment, amazing dishes- can't wait to come back.
