I’ve visited this restaurant a few times for a sandwich and a latte since it's convenient being near the library. Unfortunately, the woman who runs the place is consistently rude. The food is okay, but definitely overpriced. I ordered a croissant breakfast sandwich with just sausage and egg, and avocado on the side, which cost me $11.04. When I opened the sandwich to see what was oozing out and thought it was cheese, I was shocked to find a large blob of uncooked egg—yuck! I took the sandwich up to the counter to show the rude lady, and her response was that it was just grease from the sausage. Really? No, it was a gross puddle of raw egg. She took the sandwich to the back, and I’m pretty sure she just scraped off the uncooked egg and brought it back to me. This was definitely my last visit to this place.
My personal favorite is definitely Paden's Special. The bread is incredibly fresh, and the avocado is perfectly ripe—it's simply a delicious and satisfying sandwich. If you’re in the mood for something different, their tuna on a pretzel croissant is a must-try; it's delightfully fresh and served quickly. And I can't forget to mention their mochas—they're absolutely divine! What truly sets this place apart is not just the food, but also the exceptional service. The staff is always friendly and courteous, making you feel right at home. While I've seen some reviews mentioning slow service, I’ve found the staff to be attentive and efficient every time I've visited. The owner is genuinely kind and ensures that everyone has a wonderful dining experience. As for the atmosphere, the cafe features charming indoor and outdoor seating areas that are incredibly cozy, making it an ideal spot for both work and relaxation. Plus, the convenience of being right by the library entrance is a bonus. The prices are quite reasonable, especially considering the high quality of food and service you receive. You can expect to spend around $1 to $10 per person, which is a great deal for what you get. Don't pay attention to the critics; this cafe is run with care and dedication, not as a "public employee-owned place" as some people have claimed. Chapters Cafe embodies what a community café should be—delicious food, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere. I definitely plan to return and highly recommend that you give it a try!
I've only had the mochas, but they're amazing! The staff is always super friendly as well.
Public employee owned (library) coffee shop. If you like a place run like the post office with employees trying to avoid doing any work and hate their customers this place is for you.
This cafe is owned by the public library so the service is what you would expect from the a typical public do nothing entity like the DMV. The woman who work here are often rude and the service counter is frequently unstaffed with everyone working in the kitchen likely hiding from customers. This is typical of government owned services, i wish they would lease it out to a private business
