The setting for La Poule Noire could not easily be bettered. Outside the tables are immediately in front of the extraordinary tympanum of the Cluniac monastery. Inside the stone and wood surroundings lend a cosy charm to the proceedings. The food is fine and not expensive for the quality. Good wine list filled with all the local names - Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé - you would expect. View all feedback.
During the visit in la Charité-sur-Loire for lunch. after a first refusal to house 6 of us outside (we have on a table for 4 and a separate table for 2) we had a nice lunch outside in the sun of the choices. on the carte du jour. service was good and fast and eating was interesting. they would recommend if they were in the opposite.
It can not eat many more beautiful spots in the loire opposite than this place. it has no river view, but the building is photogenic and the view is from the striking Romanesque city church, which was once one of the most important in all france. on a hot sunny day took a group of us lunch on the shaded terrace, the set menu offers a lot of choice as well as some daily specialties. a lot is made from local recipes and ingredients and the level of cooking is more than competent. service was moderate and charming. a limited weinliste makes most local stars pouilly and sancerre. eating is easy and well looked at and I suspect that connected to the season. note that some courts are supplemented so that the bill can escalate soon. meat and fish had been clear source, and vegetables were boiled, al gelled, as befits a kitchen that is conscious to treat good products and not to respect recommended.
Beautiful location near the entrance to the church. interesting medieval building with a beautiful terrace for al fresco. ende februar 22c terrace was full. rabbit and herbal jalied terrarine was lovely. the sweet of the calves with morels and jacket kartoffeln was skrumbling. a beautiful. lunch and will certainly return.
We chose this because it was opposite where we having a drink outside the Abbaye. Having wandered round the town looking for some where to have dinner with a friend, it appeared to have the most interesting menu. And so it turned out to be...the food was delicious with a reasonable number of choices. The service was friendly and the atmosphere lively without being too noisy. Its quality was underlined by the fact it was very quickly full of people enjoying themselves. All this came at a good value price.
The owners are sisters Mary and Emily who come from a large family of restaurateurs. They make you welcome from the moment you enter. The food and decor are very simple but elegant. Service is enjoyable and not rushed. Good wines. One does not expect...this level of cuisine in such a small town. Definitely the best restaurant in La Charite and we missed it on our first 4 visits. There is also a lovely patio in the shadow of the gothic cathedral..
