Like other reviews have pointed out, reservations are required for the vegan meal, but the service is excellent and eating was fantastic. the vegan curs expressly says that they do not use animal products (written on their website in Japanese when they have reserved the vegan meal, there is no need to worry. this is more of a fancier restaurant that serves many courses during the meal. all courses consist of different types of tofu. it was a running meal for me. the staff were all very friendly and the building itself is also beautiful. we had a nice meal here. I'll be back to the final! the vegan curs is not offered at its kiyamachi location. if your hotel makes a reservation for them, please call the gion filiale.
We had dinner at the location gion. that is the only one that has the vegetarian/vegan option. we had our hotel reserve the vegan rokuhara for us in the morning. because of our very limited japaner we could not reserve ourselves. When we arrived at the restaurant, they asked if we were in a hurry. the whole meal was vegan. there was a lot of food! although we paid 5100 yen per person and one of our children did not eat much, we felt satisfied. the whole evening meal lasted almost 2.5 hours. if they like different forms of tofu, they definitely go here. the personal was nice and spoke sufficiently English. they also had an English menu.
We have booked 2 days before us and the Rokuhara set tofu/veg menu everything from beginning to end was amazing. not sure about the other location, but the gion restaurant was top class. the server were very helpful and explained each court to us and what to do with the booked tofu, which after eating all and every cure tasted fantastic at only over 5000yen it is not cheap, but we were very full and took almost 2 hours to lunch. this set contains no meat fish or milk products the surroundings of the restaurant was also beautiful....see my pictures ignore the negative comments 2017. book on... Book the set menu and they will love it as they are considered vegan for us
Simple and excellent eating elegantly prepared. they have a meal containing fish and ice. I ordered the hot tofu and one of the Tofu skins a la carte. the hot tofu is expensive, but it is great, and they will give them as much extra tofu free as they want. the service is absolutely top notch, and there are more than enough English spoken to treat order. the location is spectacular. they will probably need a reservation to sit outside, but the inner is also beautiful.
Location: tosuiro has 2 restaurants, with clear local maps and photos on their English language website. We went to the Gion site: on Higashioji-dori btw Yasui Higashiyama and Yasui Konpriagu shrine. It's a few blocks south of the landmark Yasako shrine, down the street from a Lawson across from a 7/11. It's an easy walk from the many temples in south Higashiyama, such as Chion-In. Ambiance and menu: the Gion site has an open kitchen tatami room, small garden and small dining room with Western. Style chairs tables. The food is Beautifully presented, and servers are friendly, speaking some English. The all vegan set should be reserved a day in advance, by phone in Japanese. We asked our Air B&B host to make the call--no,problem. Dishes included chilled tofu, hot pot, grilled miso tofu, stuffed tofu , pickles, soy ice cream . A fabulous splurge in a tranquil atmosphere.
