this was a pre fixe only lunch meal for $19. it had about 4 plates with 2 small and 2 large items. some pieces of broth came with fish sauce to remove them. that kept me full all day because there is so much soy! flavours are simple. I wouldn't come back, but I'm glad I tried. View all feedback.

We accidentally passed this place and had to check it out. beautiful caffe with delicious tofu dishes and gloomy. some of the dishes can contain a. Apart from a dish that contains ham, all the others seem to be vegetarian. updated by the previous review on Wednesday, 23 January 2013 in their loading they sell fish stocks, so they might want to check that they have no fish in their eating. also the location on the map is wrong. it is much closer to kita no tenmangu shrine. when they follow the map, they end up at the flafel garden.

I saw this restaurant on happy cow before I went to japan in March 2013, and it was very close to kitano tenmangu shrine that I visited to see the ume blossom. I have before my visit email and the manager was wonderful, he made a reservation for me and would talk to his personal about a special vegan tofu meal for me. it was very easy to find and many signage. it is on every Japanese tourist to do list, so is very busy with Japanese visitors on their holiday to kyoto. I spoke to a worker and showed her my email and after some confusion I got a table. she talked to the cook who knew about my visit and they prepared a veganized version of the dish. this would normally be fish stock in, along with the dipping sauce (which they are substituted for soy sauce). eating came fast and was amazing. the rice bowl had fresh yuba and silk tofu up, with a bowl of clear suppe (I checked what was passed and was pleased that they had taken the time to make it conbu only). I also had pickles and a plate of different types of tofu. everything was delicious and I even had a piece of tree cake (soy milk, of course I would doubt that this would have been vegan, but definitiw vegetarian. the place was very easy and the staff was friendly and very helpful. despite the language barrier they had an English menu. I think it helped me to have a list of what I couldn't eat in Japanese what helped the cook to understand. also here there are souvenirs, and I bought some traditional cinnamon cookies (yatsuhashi,) that were made with soy milk and sugar and soy milk-Wagashi, räkugan. there were also beautiful calendars with their mascot rabbit. I highly recommend to eat here, but contact them before the time to arrange a veggie friendly option, as all fish dashi will have in and bonito up. also there were very long waiting queues when I went (at lunch on weekday) so it is worth making a reservation and going early. also, as expected, the meals are very hard tofu. I love tofu, but maybe your omni friend can't: these are the same people who own soy milk donut stack in the Nishiki market, which I also highly recommend the yummiest donuts that I have ever had!
This Kyoto restaurant showcases tofu in a variety of ways including yuba. All food is beautifully presented whether its a set meal or a dessert. There are 3 set meals available ranging from 1050 to 1200 yen, with each one comprised of 6-8 different items. There are a number of other things on the menu (an English version is available) including a variety of drinks and scrumptous parfaits for dessert. There is egg in some items, so you need to ask. The only meat I saw, was a few thin slices of ham served on a breakfast plate. Service is prompt and friendly. The restaurant is of mid size, clean and has large windows that make it well lit. There is one restroom, which is small, but clean and well-stocked. The only problem I had with this place, was the closing time. The hours posted on the window says its open till 11, but the website says 6. I got there once at 5:30, and it was closed. The Tofu Cafe is on the north side of Imadegawa-dori, east of Nishioji-dori and west of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine.
