Store specializes in dense slabs. They have a good variety, but the three most famous are the standard and the black or red spicy rams. The first three keys in the upper row are standard, red and black, in this order. The store is very famous so try at 11:30 if you want to find a seat View all feedback.

Consistently rated as one of the best Rammen stores in Kyoto and recommended by many Kioto local students, Gokkei transforms the Rammen scene with its thick, creamy chicken soup/gray that is the ultimate comfort food. It is a bit out of the way, but 100% worth your time and effort to try one of the most unique bowls of ruts in Japan. This smoker does not come with soup, it comes with straight chicken engraving and it is a game changer. It's so thick, I'm convinced that she's placing a whole chicken through a mixer until it became a creamy sauce that dresses every noodle perfectly with every bite. Waiting is ridiculously long, but eating is ridiculously good. I got a ticket at 4:15 and asked me to come back at 5:30. When I got there at 5:30, I waited an hour before sitting. The food came quickly because my order was in line. There are no English menus, so here are your four options: Toridaku the original chicken soup, recommended for the first timer), Akadaku red soup, spicy), Kurodaku homemade garlic oil), and Gyodaku fish soup. They are a pillar at 750 yen per bowl and each arm comes with two bamboo shoot pieces, a piece of chashu pig, and a mountain of Higenegi a thin cut green onion type vegetables). You can add a whole egg for 100 yen, extra noodles for 100 yen and extra chashu for 200.
One of the best rams I had in Kyoto. Breadh is so thick and has taste and wealth that does not leave salty aftertaste. Size is enough and doesn't leave you hard after that. Noodles are solid and do not get soggy and Chashu slice is really good. I will definitely come back here, although the place is a bit far from downtown, it is a beautiful trip from the popular places.
I had the Akadaku wheels. The soup was thick as gravy, and the mix of spike created a delicious looking red soup when mixed. Not too spicy, but tasteful as ugly. The brown soup is the toridaku.
Menya Gokkei This was the best ramen I've ever had, and probably will ever have. This place was recommended to us while visiting Kyoto by a bartender at a bar in Pontocho Alley. We made our way there for lunch the following day and the experience was just incredible. The ramen was unlike any we'd had before, so think and rich. Be prepared to wait in line. Our wait was only about 30 minutes, completely worth it. No English menu, but the menu is pretty simple and the staff is friendly and helpful. I will dream about this place until I can make it back to Kyoto to have it again. Amazing place!
