I quite enjoy this place and will often turn to it if I’m after a relatively quiet, warm and inviting pub meal that serves all the pub classics to a good standard. Good hospitality can be expected here too! View all feedback.
Here in a group of six for dinner. It was a lovely night and we were surprised that it wasn't busier. This great looking pub come restaurant really does have a bit of wow factor when it comes to looks... simply stunning inside. There's a large central bar area and a separate dining room. All our meals and great, no one complained about the quality or serving sizes and they really were decent in size. The only let down was the friendliness of the waitress, she wasn't. Staff attentiveness and making patrons is a huge part of the overall experience for diners. I will return as it's in a great location across from the Carlton Gardens and along the tram route..<br/
Just had a wedding here yesterday and would say the space is great for a ceremony/reception, ambience is really great and wine selection was delicious. Food highlights for me as it was cocktail was: crumbed prawn with a sauce , pulled pork roll, mini hamburgers and duck pancake , lamb skewers with cheese a must and chicken skewers nice too. Staff friendly if anything a bit too tidy , I’d put my wine down for two minutes and it seemed to disappear every time. Lol Would recommend that’s for sure !!

Charming and cosy pub overlooking Carlton Gardens. We dined on a Saturday night without a booking and were seated straight away by the friendly staffs.<br/ <br/ We were blown away by the food when our dishes arrived. The Chicken Parma was huge, and it was covered on top by gooey creamy cheese and surrounded by crisped crunchy cheese on the edges. Cheese done two ways on a Parma that was moist and tender loved it! The chips however weren't that great.<br/ <br/ The Spanish Chorizo Pappardelle was coated in a rich creamy sauce and accompanied by pieces of chorizo and roasted pumpkins. The salty chorizo and the sweet pumpkins worked wonders to create a beautiful balance of flavours in such a decadent dish.<br/ <br/ The Eye Fillet was cooked to perfection. My partner asked for medium rare and received a sexy piece of meat that was pink in the middle, with some juice flowing, and soft yet slightly springy. Safe to say that he polished off everything on his plate.<br/ <br/ While the 3 mains were excellent, the lamb, feta and mint croquettes for starter was just slightly above average. While the execution was spot on creamy on the inside, and crispy on the outside, the mint somewhat overpowered the signature gamey taste of the lamb.<br/ <br/ Not the cheapest meal when alcohol is added into the equation, but it was a very tasty meal indeed.<br/
Second time here and just as good as the first.I had the Eye Fillet with tossed vegies and mash. Steak was cooked to Medium perfection and melted in my mouth. Vegies fresh and crisp and mashed potato smooth and delicious. Tried the Anchovy and Mustard butter with my steak which I enjoyed (although it was so cold it took quite a while to melt on my steak). He had the Black Angus Porterhouse with Steak Fries and Salad. Only criticism was not enough dressing on the salad but otherwise very enjoyable.Pub has a great classy atmosphere and staff are very attentive.Prices seem to have increased since last visit normally a glass of wine from a pub bistro is around $7.50 their wine list was on average $10 a glass which to me is a little high.Nevertheless a very good experience overall.
