Fresh and delicious!. We are now regulars of Happy Lantern as the dishes have always been fresh and full of flavour. The main dishes are generous in their ingredients and good value. According to the front window, the food is cooked fresh and without MSG and we have consistently found it so. Honestly the best Vietnamese dishes I've ever had. Really bummed to put such an average review of this little Vietnamese local I found using the Zomato map search. I was just to tired to drive to Richmond for a bowl of Pho and thought I would give this relatively new local place a go... Fresh restaurant. What a nice change up from the usual red-lantern-wooden-themed Asian restaurants around. Affordable VNese and Indian food, small menu but very flavorful, even a book exchanging corner. Small and cozy. Will probably take my date here next time.
The prawn spring rolls also left much to be desired; the prawn filling was mushy, and I personally prefer a firmer texture. On top of that, their EFTPOS machine wasn’t working, and they asked me to use PayPal instead. I really hoped this place would impress me. I wasn’t expecting the same quality as Richmond’s Victoria Street, just a decent local option for pho and spring rolls. Overall, I’d say it was below average. Honestly, I’d rather go without pho than make the drive to this place again.
