Spacious indoor and outdoor restaurant with a regular menu which is child-friendly. It can be crowded but service is at speed. The food is nothing beyond the extraordinary but fair enough for the setting and price. Outdoor seats have a beautiful view on elephant area. It's worth it for a quick bite in between the zoo visit. What Rachel T doesn't like about Sambesi:
The food isn't why you eat here (and good thing, too, because it's terrible). You go for the view of the elephant enclosure and so that you don't have to pack a lunch. On those two counts, it completely satisfied. If I were rating the food alone, I'm not sure it would muster 2-stars. View all feedback.
With such a promising location you expect way more than what you get... wow what a disappointment. I guess the owner realizes that families will stop by and eat no matter what. Shame. Family restaurants dont have to serve complicated high class food, i get that but simple food can be super tasty if done right. Here you get microwave loveless food. The hotdogs were an embarrassment, dry and no sauce when you ask for ketchup all you get is a single small ketchup pack. The fries were cold, the hamburger again dry and cold. I know kiosks that serve better food. Prices are unjustified for the level of food.

We went to the zoo on our first day in Germany and got there about lunch time. This is a really nice looking lodge with an outlook over the elephant exhibit. Since my wife loves elephants, we sat outside. We ordered one of our German favorites, currywurst, and got some eischocolat (that's cooled hot chocolate with ice cream). Tasty. We got chased inside by a sudden rainstorm, and sat at a nice table to finish up and added a cake to our order. Service was fine. Glad we stopped here.
