What Natasha Kunze doesn't like about Choc Beer:
In my opinion, this place is overpriced and overrated. The food is just average and too costly for what you get. The drinks are also quite pricey. I wasn’t impressed, especially considering there are better Italian options out there. View all feedback.
We arrived and were seated in a room down a long hallway. The chairs were left over from the 80s, those iron black kind with the stained and fading patterns. The heavily tattooed and pierced waitress brought a menu. She was very kind and honest, and she answered our questions. We placed our order. Soon, our waitress brought a bowl full of chopped iceberg lettuce covered in an oily dressing to the table. Apparently, this was the salad just a pile of greasy lettuce. Then, she brought a tiny basket of garlic bread that tasted delicious. How can anyone mess up garlic bread? Our antipasta plate consisted of a few small pimento stuffed olives, about 6 squares of unidentifiable cheese, and a couple pepperoncini peppers. I felt like I was getting to pay for someone's kids school loans or maybe mafia bills because they certainly spared every expense in bringing me my food. It was cheap. The main course consisted of a large pile of spaghetti covered in a heavy red sauce. Well, actually, everything was covered in a heavy red sauce. The sauce was bland with no real memorable flavor other than tomato based. The two meatballs were what sealed the deal for me. If you have ever lived on a farm and had a billy goat, then you can imagine what those meatballs tasted like. One bite ,and I could taste the way a billy goat smells. YUCK! We also ordered lasagna, and it was made about as cheaply as possible. There was no Italian sausage in it, and the flavor was ehh. The temperature though, was tepid. Not hot, and a little cool in the middle. I will never go back and waste another $50.00 there. They are making a killing off of first time visitors because I can't imagine anyone ever going back there for that mess. We declined running up anymore of a bill when we were offered dessert. We decided to cut our losses and leave. We also left all the pile of tepid food on the table; whereas, we would normally have taken a to go box and eaten another meal. This gets the notoriety of being the worst Italian restaurant I have ever eaten at. It actually ranks up there with one of the worst restaurants I have ever eaten at. The first being a Mexican restaurant in Syria where they tried to recreate the taste of the food from pictures. My advise, save your money and let the mafia take out Pete's other leg.
Had a wonderful visit with the family. Cozy atmosphere, great food, great service. And that garlic bread!
Great private dining as a family. Food was fresh and served family style which meant there was plenty of ravioli and spaghetti to go around! Everything tasted freshly made and the lady who waited on our table gave us excellent service.
Great place to eat. Food is delicious and the private rooms are nice. Waitress was very nice too. I'll be back!
For the past 30 years, we have regularly traveled through the area and have heard of a wonderful “must try” Italian restaurant close to McAlester. We finally stopped for dinner. Based on our experience, we will not choose to eat there again We arrived about 7 on a weeknight and after a short wait were seated at a table in a small room that had a few tables in in. It was a very odd table arrangement with both our chairs facing the corner walls/backs to the room and no room to rearrange that placement. Two servers came and went seeing to other diners without acknowledging us. After waiting patiently, we sought out assistance at the host desk. Attentive service soon followed so our initial experience would have been forgiven but we just did not care for our meal. We both ordered the Italian dinner and found the marinara has a very bland unusual taste that of course permeated our spaghetti, ravioli, and meatball dinner. Perhaps we would have had better luck with a different entree but neither of us cared for the sauce that Pete’s Place serves with Italian dishes. On the bright side, the assorted semi private rooms at Pete’s place would be a good venue choice for a larger group. The dinners are served family style so the Italian side dishes are plentiful and boxes are provided to allow you to take leftovers home. Had we enjoyed the sauce it would have been a delight to take our’s with us.
