Shalimar - Kottayam

Fraud hotel... I give chicken currey but they are parcel for beef creavy inside chicken piece... Worst

The Shalimar restaurant on Kottayam Changanacherry road is famous for the traditional food items like porotta beef fry, biriyani, mutton roast etc which were the main dishes served in most of the restaurants two decades ago. Shalimar Restaurant serves the same dishes, may be in a better way and it is popular mainly because of this aspect. I have been to this restaurant while at Kottayam and few months back had food from here on the way to Trivandrum. The food was really good, especially the beef fry. The BDF was also tasty. The service was good as before and over the restaurant is best for the traditional Kerala food.

During a recent lunch at this place I ordered mutton curry. The dish was had good amount of serving but the meat looked so white and did not taste anything like mutton. I had doubts about what meat was in the dish and could not eat much because of the texture and taste of the meat. A recent news item of catching 1000 kg of dog meat and several google hits for keyword search dog meat caught in kerala confirmed my fears. I had several sleepless nights after the incident and wanted to warn patrons of this restaurant to be cautious while ordering food especially mutton) there.

The food was so tasty which I ate chicken biriyani ...

Fairly clean place with parking area and reasonable price
