What Jane Vong doesn't like about Sky Kota Kinabalu Green Table:
The menu at this restaurant is no longer completely vegetarian, but they do offer some vegetarian options. My meal was bland and took a long time to arrive. I also had doubts about the authenticity of my pumpkin soup being vegan, despite being told so. There was a buffet with many meat options, which I was informed was for a private function and I couldn't partake in it (not that I wanted to anyway). View all feedback.
Have tested her wash veggie buffet. it is 30 rm that is much more than I would pay in the rule for dinner, but it is all that they can eat so make sure that they come hungry to get their money worth. all vegetarian, but many vegan options, ask them the personal. Mostly mock meat, so if they are not sharp on them, I would skip. eating was usually very good. had a look at the weekday menu, which about 15 25 rm so a little cheaper
I had the pleasure of staying at Sky Hotel for a couple of nights while visiting KK for work. I had heard they had a veggie buffet, but was really impressed that the hotel actually only serves vegetarian food! As a vegan familiar with navigating vegetarian buffets in Malaysia, I find that it is more productive to ask whether dishes contain egg (telur) or milk (susu) etc. rather than asking if something is vegan (which is not always well understood). The breakfast buffet had a good selection of salad and sushi (all vegan), as well as hot food such as rice porridge, fried noodles, tofu, tempeh, veggies (some with egg/creamy sauces) and various mock meat/seafood dishes (I was told none of the meat/seafood contained egg/milk but based on mock meat packets in Malaysian supermarkets I find it depends on the brand e.g. most veggie fish balls contain albumin from egg white I'm not sure non-vegans would be aware of this, so either clarify with the kitchen or avoid if you don't want to risk it). They also had vegan friendly nasi lemak bungkus (coconut rice with peanuts, tempeh and spicy sambal wrapped in a banana leaf) this was really tasty! The fruit selection could've been better (only pineapple or watermelon), but to be honest you can find good fruit elsewhere. There was sliced bread available for toasting but only dairy-based butter was provided (I personally prefer to avoid sliced bread as several brands contain milk powder the massimo brand is sfv though, if you feel inclined to check with the kitchen). I asked about soy milk for cereal/coffee but sadly they do not provide it currently. I will be making a suggestion that they do. I tried the RM35 dinner buffet on Sunday evening (they have a RM21 set dinner option during weeknights; the buffet is only at weekends). The dinner buffet was similar to the breakfast buffet: salad, sushi, fried rice/noodles, tofu dishes, and several mock meat/seafood dishes. However, they also had a spaghetti station where you could request either tomato or kimchi spaghetti (made to order) this was vegan friendly (no butter, milk, egg or cheese in sight). They made the tomato sauce in front of me (chopped tomatoes and veggies) simple but satisfying. The evening buffet also had fruit (watermelon) and various Malaysian kuih (cakes/delicacies) on offer. Many kuih are made with coconut milk, glutinous rice and palm sugar and are usually vegan friendly (the green and white coconut pandan kuih talam are my favourite but do check, as some contain egg/milk. They also had sago pearls and bubur kacang (sweet red bean soup with coconut milk). Despite not everything being vegan, can I just say again how good it felt to be in a hotel that only serves vegetarian food! The restaurant was busy, and I don't imagine that all the guests were vegetarian I even missed to realise it was a vegetarian hotel when I booked so this was a nice surprise!
Went here for dinner. I don't know if I were unlucky or it's like this every time but the guy who took my order didn't really get that I was vegan. I explained that I don't eat anything from animals like milk, egg, cheese and so on and he answers: we are a vegetarian restaurant. I: But you serve egg and milk right!? He: yeah.. So I asked what he recommend for me who don't eat egg or milk and he rekommended a noodle dish with egg sauce. I tell him again that I don't eat egg. He says that they can make it without the egg but I'm not sure if I really got it without egg or not. And it didn't taste anything at all, like they didn't use any spices. So weird! I couldn't even finish my meal..
The buffet was really delicious and the staff is friendly and happy to explain what is vegan and what is not.
