What Rose Unger doesn't like about Zen:
Been here twice, first time was a 4 everything was very good, second time there were some serious flaws: a 2. Therefore my 3 in the rating. Sushi not bad, but can be improved. Gyoza needs a lot more attention in cooking. Service ranged from...good to excellent. Around 30 euros per person. View all feedback.
We sat here, as we were recommended. the service was well to begin, the usual drinks offered, menu spent etc. eating ordered, and the waiting time for the food was ok. then when the food and drinks had been delivered to the table., service disappeared in thin air, and considering that there were 3 server, and we sat where they could see us clearly, there really is no excuse for it. Original plan, was a 3-course menu with some drinks etc. it became a 2 cursor meal, and a drink everyone, as the server seem to have no interest in earning extra money by coming to check if they want another drink or something else while they want to eat. the starter was good and authentic, as I said in the title, it was a good start to dinner. the main thing was oversalted and the chicken was over boiled. so more than a drink would have been necessary to wash this, and yes, I would have asked for one, but a restaurant that is highly recommended in terms of eating and service would expect something better. then new guests arrived and were looking for a table and one of the server must take care to say that we stayed a lot too long, which meant that the table was not available now as they had another booking. we were there for an hour and left after eating, so the time that it will be served for a drink a start and a main dish is what this amount took time. they did not even seem interested in being paid as I had to wave and ask for the bill. this was a business meal, so what could have been easily a double the price to the worth when the service was great, turned into a very simple meal. it is safe to say I will not return.
Make a reservation. We did and only the bar area was available which is actually quite nice to watch the chefs in action. THe place was hopping busy which explains the temp (a bit slow) and some confusion. Food was all very good with fresh...ingredients and lovely spices. Very small space, can get loud when all seats are filled, but that energy adds to the atmosphere. Not too many Japanese restaurants in Cologne so this is little haunt is a gem.

No 1 restaurant in köln plz visit once an time gud food available here nd service and staff is also very gud
Fascinating watching one's food being cooked in front of you. Sashimi was exquisite, cooked foods sublime. Only down side when we received the bill, none of our party of four (from the four corners of the Globe including one local German) credit cards worked, so...we had to struggle to scrape together cash payment- beware!!!.
