If you like, creative and incredibly good food at a big price, this is a great choice. The service and the atmosphere are also at the top of the game. Price fix menu each of the 17 small courses were fantastic. The wine pairing which I split with my wife was also great. This restaurant lives up to its rating from Michelin. View all feedback.
What GourmandTrashPanda doesn't like about A|o|c:
Yes, 1/5 points. Why? Because this places is supposed to have two Michelin starts. Let me start by stating that the food was mostly not good – not to mention the price point. Like other travelers, I have flown around the world and enjoyed food at some of the most incredible places. AOC is overrated and, even worse, a simply bad experience. What really did me in was the sommelier resting his hand on the opening of the... View all feedback.
A lovely food journey. The seafood dishes were well prepared. I would say that 10/17 dishes were mind blowing, creative and delicious. Two were okay and the rest were quite good. The Instagram videos provided a lot of insight demonstrating how diligently the dishes were prepared. I agree that the service was not excellent for a two star, but still a great experience overall.
The restaurant is located in the basement under a mansion in Frederiksstaden, so it has some fantastic vaults that create a classic impression. The decor is also classic with white tablecloths, which you hardly see anymore. We were greeted by smiling staff who remained professional but still relaxed and smiling for the rest of the evening. We were two guests and chose the 7 glass wine menu, one got menu 1 and the other menu 2. We did it to check the level difference menu 2 tasted absolutely the best and then you had to settle with yourself whether you want to pay the extra. My companion was given a glass of champagne to start, of which I did not want any. This meant I had nothing to drink but water for the first 5 servings (out of 17), which we thought was a bit odd I would have liked a glass of wine to start with. The food was really tasty, sometimes in boring presentations (for example Raw shrimp and toast, which just looked like two crackers on top of each other, but the taste was ABSOLUTELY amazing). The dishes were well balanced, had interesting flavor combinations and/or were cooked to perfection . However, there were a few dishes that fell a little by the wayside, for example the turbot, which was tasty but without wow . Oysters with coriander sticks, among other things, were drowned out by an imbalance between the delicate oysters and the tough ones sticks. The wine was in full symbiosis with the food, both in menu 1 and 2. All in all, a good experience, but if you could give half stars, I would probably have given the food 4.5.
As expected, a superb dining experience. We brought my 9 year old niece, who loved more than a few of the 17 courses, and the staff were very gracious and kind. I recommend the juice pairing for adventurous non-drinkers.
Had a wonderful evening at AOC as the heavily seafood-focused menu (with exception to quail) was right up our alley. Amazing from start to finish and matching wines were a treat as well. Can't wait to go back!
This place showed so much potential… But if there is anything I am allergic to, it is the snobbish attitude of the front of the house in some of the places that have probably one too many accolades. It’s unfortunate, really, because I have seen cases that prove that you can be exceptional AND create an experience that comes from the heart, rather than the one that is overburdened with arrogance and pride. Anyhow, some of the items on the menu at AOC were delicious and surprising. For instance, I was at first skeptical about their take on the French onion soup served in an actual onion but was proven wrong as it was delightful. Their mackerel with kohlrabi pumpkin juice was so fresh. Some of the other dishes were comme ci comme ca and had a tendency to fall apart on the plate or in the hands ... And at the end of the day, the dessert menu turned out to be the highlight of the evening: green strawberry with elderflower, Nordic vanilla and especially the pickled pine cones were to come back for. However, regardless of how good parts of the menu were, the whole experience just failed to come together as the good bits were overshadowed by the attitude of an extremely arrogant server who lacked training on some of the basics of hospitality. All in all, I think this place 1/ has become too comfortable resting on the Michelin laurels and has opportunity to rethink some aspects of its menu, 2/ urgently needs to revamp the front of the house training programs.
