I didn’t try any food since I just wanted a quick margarita for my last night in Kodiak. I might have been a bit slow to respond since I had a long day at work, but I could tell the bartender wasn’t really in the mood to engage in conversation. Once she saw that I wouldn't be keeping my tab open, she quickly told me my total was $13.75—before I’d even taken a sip of my drink. It was clear she was friendlier with the other customers coming in. I understand; maybe she had a tough day at work. As a chef myself, I totally get the challenges of the food industry. I probably would have handled it differently, but I suppose this is just a simple bar in a small Alaskan town. You come in, grab your drink, and move on. At least I got to support a local business, so that counts for something.
