I was a bit nervous after reading some of the reviews, so was relieved to find the restaurant busy with a bustling lunch crowd. I ordered the BBQ Pork Vermicelli bowl. Fresh vegetables accompanied a generous portion of pork and noodles. I will return with friends. View all feedback.
What Antimo Grasso doesn't like about Golden Turtle Restaurant:
About 25 people from work ordered takeout lunch. Some of the dished looked pretty good, so I guess I just made a bad choice. I had #307. It sounded good, but it was very dry (no sauce of any kind) and not very tasty. I also had an avocado milk shake which was pretty good. View all feedback.
Went here just to try their pho. It was pretty good. Broth was decent, lots of meat but not many onions. I'd say come try Golden Turtle restaurant if in the area, but don't drive out of your way to do so. In Summary: Good pho.
The food, warms your belly, just the way mom's cooking does. You'll find some traditional dishes served here, where no other Vietnamese restaurants do. Each dish, full of flavour, the traditional way. Not the best decor, but the food makes up for it. Staff is very friendly, and speak english decently.
All the food is good especially the spring rolls. instead of the common oily ones from common Vietnamese restaurant, theirs are oily at all.
Excellent food. I recommend the bun bo hue! Canh chua is good too but over priced and doesn't come with any rice.
My wife and I ended up going to this restaurant for supper on the evening of July 1st when we came to downtown Kitchener for the Canada Day festivities, not because we planned to go there or had an appetite for Vietnamese food, but because it was the only restaurant within a reasonable distance on King St that was still open AND had room for us! All the other restaurants were either closed or packed out.Nice interior, clean with comfy seating. Unfortunately, only a local radio station playing for background music. Ethnic music would have been more appropriate and welcome to add to the atmosphere.Service was friendly and prompt. Wait time for food was reasonable. Less impressed with the food. Not that it was bad or anything, just that it seemed average. Nothing outstanding. I had BBQ chicken soup and my wife had a pork chop with rice and some shredded chicken. We couldn't decide if Vietnamese food generally has less flavour than other Asian cuisines like Thai or Lao, or if it was just the way they did it here, dumbing it down for what they believe is generally acceptable to Canadian palates. The spring rolls we had as an appetizer were good, except for the fact that a couple had split open, resulting in burnt areas that weren't so tasty. We thought prices were reasonable, even somewhat inexpensive considering the restaurant's downtown location and nice facilities.Bathrooms are downstairs in the basement, so be prepared to walk off some of the calories you consumed :)
