Great experience at JD Wetherspoons, the only place that serves beer from 9 o'clock. That's why I decided to visit this restaurant. Additionally, they offer free parking at Tesco. View all feedback.
What morleyterrier doesn't like about The Union Rooms:
We called in on a midweek lunchtime for a bite to eat and it was very good value. The outside of the pub looked good for a Wetherspoons but it was untidy inside with tables not being cleared of empty glasses. On the day of our visit there were not many diners and the atmosphere was a little odd. I had the southern fried chicken wrap a good tasty snack, My wife had the small brunch ok but the sausage was bland. Howeve... View all feedback.
I often visit the Union Rooms, where the food is decent and affordable. Last night, I went on Friday to meet friends and grab a bite to eat. After sitting at our table for two hours, we decided to order our food around 6:30 pm. Shortly after, the bar manager placed a slip on our table that said "reserved" for 7 pm, which seemed quite rude. She informed us that there was a quiz and we would have to move. There was no consideration for the customers at all! Obviously, we didn't move as we weren't planning on finishing our dinner in twenty minutes. The table should have been reserved much earlier. The manager was rude and arrogant. However, the food was tasty and the other staff members were great, it was just the manager who was unpleasant. I must mention that some of the seats were dirty and stained, in need of a good clean. Some even appeared to have been urinated on.
We came here looking forward to a relaxed family meal, but it quickly turned sour when we were served what seemed to be a burger with only a few chips. The portion was so small it could barely feed a rat! To make matters worse, we found some green chips in the mix, which was unacceptable. When we raised the issue with the staff, they rudely dismissed us and walked away. This whole experience has greatly affected my mental well-being and I demand a full refund. It's ridiculous that these people think they can run a business when they can't even handle simple tasks efficiently.
There were a lot of rats running around under the terrace, so I chose not to stay and eat. I had planned on having breakfast, but the presence of rats deterred me.

The exterior of the restaurant appears larger than the interior, but the staff is very friendly and the service is fast. As with all Wetherspoon restaurants, the food is affordable and good value for money. The only drawback is that there are three stairs to climb to get to the toilets. There is no parking available in front of the restaurant, but there is a small free parking spot on the street. Overall, worth a visit if you're in the area.
