Smitty's Drive in - Kirkland Lake

We enjoyed satisfying salads at a reasonable price for lunch and came back for cheese and wine late at night.

The oysters at this restaurant were delicious, but the foie gras we ordered was mediocre. The service was very slow and the staff were unfriendly.

The exterior is somewhat dilapidated. “For Sale” signs are prominent in the restaurant windows but there was also a sign saying “Open for the season”, so I dropped in for a quick breakfast en route to the Quebec border. The menu is posted over the grill… similar to, but less fancy than the menus in the fast food chains. Very limited options. Exactly five breakfast items… “Breakfast” $5.75; Breakfast burger $4.65; Western $4.65; Toast $1.35; Hashbrowns $1.50. Coffee… small $1.00, large $1.50 I chose “Breakfast” which translated into 2 eggs with hashbrowns, toast and choice of meats. I paid up front at the counter and then seated myself. The food arrived on a tray… fast food style… plastic plate, plastic cutlery, coffee in a foam cup. Eggs and toast standard OK; hash browns somehow indescribable, but also OK; the two large slices of peameal bacon were a pleasant surprise. Coffee also standard OK, hot and black, but of course no refills.Service was friendly… consisted of food delivery to the table; then no further interaction. Free encrypted WiFi; password available on request. All-in-all an OK experience, but I won't be dropping in again.

I had a fantastic salad in a wonderful atmosphere with the classic French level of service. The pricing is fair, and I will definitely be returning.

Went there the other night, the service was great and the food was awesome. It was fast service and everything was made to what was ordered. It was all cooked to perfection. Will be going back there again and again.
