Our fish and chips were great. Fish was fresh and cooked very well, the chips were also very good. It's popular with locals and the large waiting area was busy and friendly. We had to wait about 15 to 20 minutes, they seem to cook every order from scratch, so the food was great. The home made Tartar sauce was excellent, i recommend trying that. Kid-friendliness: Great selection of kid meals. Plenty of food and large... View all feedback.
What Kirsten Parker doesn't like about The Mermaid:
we look forward to our fishing and chips of the mermaid every time we show up here. it was always delicious, but unfortunately it was a big disappointment this time. the teig was soggy and the fish overcooked and very little of it. chips. do not taste right. Hopefully the next time we get up, it will be back to its beautiful taste. we will try the fish and chips again View all feedback.
Delicious fish and chips and crunchy curry sauce also. cooked fresh and fast friendly service. will definitely be close again.
Fish and chips taste better and better on a holiday at the sea, especially if they don't live anywhere near the sea and these not very generous portions even disappoint the child's meal. between us we ordered kabeljau, whitebait and sampi absolutely delicious
Staying locally in the area we thought we would get a local takeaway. Arrived at a garage forecourt where there was a shop in the middle, the fish chip shop one end and a Chinese takeaway the other. Loads of people hanging about outside...only to find out they are waiting for there orders. When I get to the counter they said it was a half hour wait, ok thought about going somewhere else but the time you would have driven etc it wasn’t worth it so waited more like 50 minutes for my name to be called that my order was ready. Luckily it didn’t disappoint and was really tasty and big portions. My tip would be to phone the order through as these are given priority. Also the opening hours aren’t very long and even while we were there they were telling people they had sold out of things so get in early.
Living in North Norfolk you’re spoiled for choice of great eating places and fish and chips are available everywhere. The guys at The Mermaid have always served me nothing but huge pieces of beautifully cooked fish with perfectly done, slightly crispy chips and never a...greasy aftertaste in sight! A local staple.
Lovely local fish and chip takeaway. Good size portions of fish and chips, very tasty batter as well. 1st ever visit and would definitely recommend
