Samascott Orchards - Kinderhook
Samascott Orchards
Description
Set amid rolling orchards, this family-friendly u-pick destination offers abundant seasonal produce—peaches, cherries, apples, berries, vegetables and chestnuts—along with convenient drive-through access, quick drive-up checkout and ice cream treats. Friendly staff and accessible fields make it ideal for families and day trips, though visitors report uneven ripeness, occasional staffing or vendor-schedule issues, and an isolated prepared-food quality problem. Worth a visit for the outdoor experience and variety, but arrive with tempered expectations during peak season.

I bought a pre-made chicken banh mi sandwich from their refrigerated section for dinner at Tanglewood yesterday. The show was great, but unfortunately, the chicken in the sandwich was extremely tough and stale, making it nearly inedible. The rest of the sandwich was tasty, though. Just a heads up: the sell-by date was marked for the next day. So if you’re considering trying something from their prepared foods, be cautious.
Additionally, it seems like their schedule for what was ripe and what was not has been quite off this year. Fields that looked ready for picking were marked as not ripe, while others that had been nearly stripped bare were indicated as good picking. I'm not trying to criticize a local business because I genuinely love this orchard. Perhaps the crops weren't as plentiful this year, or they didn't have enough staff to regularly check on their fields. Nonetheless, this year's experience was disappointing, and we ended up visiting some other local U-pick places for our fruit. Despite this, I still think it's worth a visit and would rate it three stars. However, it hasn’t matched the five-star experiences I’ve had in the past. They have a wide variety of delicious fruits, and I don’t mind the car checks at all. I also don’t mind the entrance fee when it’s actually possible to pick enough to make it worthwhile.
What a nice place. Spent a good hour just picking peaches, blueberries and tomatoes. The produce was excellent and the friendly staff made everything even better. Great place to take the family and enjoy nature's bounties. I highly recommend Samascot Orchards.
