We visited the Hacienda for a tour and a meal at the invitation of friends from Casa de Celeste Vida. The Hacienda is hidden off a little trail which opens into an astounding property. There are rare finds in the gardens, a fantastic pool and top of the line boutique inn rooms. Our tour was led by Richard Fuller, partner and the meal was prepared by Jose Fenandez. I have written about Hacienda San Jose Pachul and its wonderful hosts Jose and Richard, a couple of times on my blog at yomimiyo. We have been so many times with so many friends and each time the experience is like none other. The gardens and art and rooms and beautiful food make for a very special day. My only regret each time is having to leave.
We spent 4 hours here enjoying and extended lunch with friends. We began with a tour around the grounds, had a couple of sour orange margaritas and then moved inside for lunch. Soup, fresh foie gras and César salad to start. Then the amazing main courses and a trio of deserts to finish off. Accompanied by a nice red wine. top quality all around, in a very remote but lovely setting.
Friends from Merida drove us out into the Yucatan wilderness down an un-marked road to find this nugget of fine living. Richard and Jose made us feel instantly welcome and comfortable in the of eclectic, colorful world they have created. On arrival we were each presented with a sour orange Margarita in a bright orange glass, only just the beginning of excellence to come. Art on a plate lasted a delicious four hours. We left with a warm pleasant feeling of deserved indulgence.
There really aren't words to describe our "experience" at Hacienda San Jose Pachul! It was so much more than a "meal at a restaurant". Jose and Richard make you feel like friends from the moment you meet, yet pamper you like royalty! The tour and history of the buildings is fascinating and the before and after pictures are a must see. These two are real visionaries! Then there is the meal, prepared with love and creativity and beyond delicious! We certainly hope that this will not be our only visit to Hacienda San Jose Pachul because "Richard and Jose you had us at hello!"
We were enthralled yet again by the wonderful setting: don't let the rough drive in from the highway frighten you.We were warmed by the excellent hospitality of Richard and Jose, especially the welcoming party of the two dogs.We were satiated by the fine food with large portions and perfect seasonings. Jose enjoys describing his creations and it is obvious he enjoys cooking and hosting.A must do!
