We visited the restaurant on a rainy day and tried the tasting menu, which had a few delicious items. The olives and goat cheese in the baked dish were amazing. The host/hostess was lovely and was kind enough to offer us shelter from the hail and let us browse through their cookbooks. I would love to visit again. View all feedback.
What Karine Bechtelar doesn't like about Basalt Vineyard Cellar Door:
Don't be put off by the premises as it is still a work in progress, everything has to start somewhere. It was a rare sunny afternoon and we had a lovely lunch of small share plates which were presented very nicely and very tasty and the waitress could answer all our questions. Their white wine was very very good and well worth trying. I would definitely go back when next in the area and would like see how the premise... View all feedback.
We just stop for coffee only on way to town. Pleasant staff good coffee but it is a construction site....be prepared....
If you drive past Basalt Winery YOU ARE MAD.Shane the host runs the most delightful cellar door and eatery.Wine is great.Food is small share plates and gorgeous all in a large galvanized shed.I have been at least have a dozen times and it just gets better and better.
A very rustic setting, winemaker is very knowledgeable and capable of matching food to the wines which we were tasting. Highly recommend a visit if you enjoy good wine.
Saw the sign as we were driving to Port Fairy and decided to call in. Host Shane was busy with business partners but still took time to spend with us and make sure that we enjoyed our visit. This is a small venue but the menus looked interesting, the wines were great and well worth visiting. They also have great coffee and Cuban cigars. Happy to take home a few bottles.
My husband and I had lunch today. We loved every second, Shane is the most brilliant and enthusiastic host. The food was delicious and accompanied by superb wines. Such a fun place . We wish it was on our doorstep but sadly it's half way round the World for us!
