Nestled just steps from the beach, Lava Java offers a delightful coffee experience that locals and visitors alike rave about. Patrons enjoy strong, locally roasted coffee, complemented by sweet macadamia nut milk, and appreciate the cozy atmosphere featuring charming decor and a friendly vibe. While some wished for more diverse drink options, the standout service, particularly from owner Scott, shines through as a key highlight. With its inviting seating area and the option to enjoy items from nearby food trucks, Lava Java is undoubtedly a must-visit spot for anyone seeking great coffee and a taste of local hospitality in Maui.

This place is fantastic! As a Seattleite, I often struggle to find good coffee when traveling, but this spot truly impressed me. Kudos to Lava Java for their rich and delicious espresso, and for not overloading their drinks with syrup. I just wish I had found it earlier in my trip so I could have gone back multiple times. This will definitely be on my must-visit list for my next trip to Maui! View all feedback.
What Kim Nguyen dislikes about Lava Java Coffee Roasters:
The latte was enjoyable, but the Americano fell short. If you're looking for a place to relax and hang out, this isn't it—it feels more like a small man-cave for three rather than a proper seating area. View all feedback.

Absolutely fantastic Americano! It was so good that we had to buy four bags of coffee beans to take home with us! Plus, the barista was incredibly friendly. A must-visit spot!
Highly recommend. Scott the owner was friendly and we will be coming back. Try the frozen mocha!!!
We had a great time talking with the staff at Lava Java! They were really friendly, and the coffee was delicious and fresh!

We had a wonderful time at this cozy little café! The coffee was outstanding, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The seating area is charming, and the shop itself is delightful. They even allowed my daughter to play with their ukulele! It's a small place, but it really brims with character!
What a charming coffee shop! We decided to give it a try since the breakfast spot next door had a long wait, and I'm so glad we did. The locally roasted coffee was robust and had a wonderful flavor balance that surpassed anything we've had previously. After parking, we grabbed our drinks and took a leisurely walk along the beach while sipping them. Don't miss out on trying anything made with macadamia nut milk; it adds a sweet, buttery nuttiness to the coffee that truly enhances the experience.
I really enjoyed the coffee here. I ordered an iced vanilla latte with oat milk, and it was absolutely perfect. There are a few seats inside, but it's mostly set up for takeout. I will definitely come back if we're in Maui again!
The latte was enjoyable, but the Americano fell short. If you're looking for a place to relax and hang out, this isn't it—it feels more like a small man-cave for three rather than a proper seating area.
Lava Java Coffee Roasters offers exceptional coffee with a great selection of alternative milks and sugar-free options. The welcoming, community-focused atmosphere made my morning truly enjoyable. Both the staff and patrons were friendly and relaxed. As someone particular about coffee and freshly back from Europe, I found their espresso wonderfully smooth and flavorful. The fun decor, featuring informative maps and other unique touches, added to the café’s charm. I highly recommend this spot—it’s guaranteed to brighten your day with a fantastic cup of coffee.

At the request of all my friends back home in New York, I embarked on a quest to discover the best coffee in Maui to bring back as souvenirs.
I had a fantastic dark roast coffee! It was smooth, slightly sweet, and full of natural, classic flavors. I enjoyed it black. I also sampled their cinnamon bun and banana bread.
