The Cafe The Alte Mann is located right below in the building of the Kiel Maritime Museum, where the new newly designed Kiel Maritime Museum has been located since spring 2014. The guest enters the café through a lateral entrance or through an entrance in the museum. In beautiful weather, seating groups are also placed outside the café, so you can see the Kieler Förde. I was here for the first time in spring 2014 at the opening weekend to drink coffee. At that time it seemed to me that the staff was not trained and that the customer status was very difficult to handle. But such a cafe with such a good location right at Kiel harbour should get a second chance of me. Since it was a sunny afternoon a few days ago, the young service staff had a lot to do and was already almost overwhelmed as all the places were occupied in the inn and outside in front of the café. We were lucky and there was a table on the window. You look good from here. It took a few minutes to get us an operation when we had already ordered. She didn't bring us a small card. Other guests at the side table immediately got the small card and the beverage card brought to the table. But when we saw the recommendations for the day on a big table at the counter, we knew what we wanted to order. The fish rolls with fish and smoked trout fillet looked delicious as we could observe when the service came from the kitchen and served the other guests. There were only two different cakes to choose, this afternoon chocolate cake and cheesecake, clear too little for a Sunday afternoon and for a café. There are more hearty dishes such as fish rolls, herring or potato salad, baguettes or sandwiches. Various breakfast options are also offered in the morning. We both ordered a Latte Machiatto, which was served only after a while by another service. But that was very good in taste and with a lot of milk foam. For this we both ordered the fish **** with smoked trout to which we had to wait an eternity. After a certain time we kindly asked how long it would take, we only got the answer that the kitchen is overwhelmed and the hearty dishes are no longer offered today. Also in the evening there are two employees (it was 16:30). No one thought it was necessary to inform us once. We didn't want to hear this answer, and I was there and went on because I was pretty busy at that time. Finally, I still read and we both ordered the chocolate cake, which fortunately was made a bit warm. This was then served surprisingly fast with lots of cream (although to calm the effort). Since the cake was still a bit warm, it was also very juicy and tasted amazingly good. Only after we had eaten the cake we saw that the table with the recommendation of fish bread was removed from the entrance hall. Now we wanted to pay. But since I didn't want to wait here for so long, I went to the counter where I had to wait again, as the colleague just served outside. Finally, we have some money for our coffee deck, but there was no tip for this bad service. This café is incredibly well thought, it can be that you have less stress here in the evening to get a beer. But in the afternoon and especially on weekends you should avoid this cafe if possible. I really think when I come back and eat a fish bread.

After visiting the interesting exhibition at the Maritime Museum, it was about tea and coffee. The café is really cozy and warm on a cold Winther day, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. The apple cake was amazing and the tea too, and we would really recommend others to go here.

Hands down the best fish and chips in Kiel!! In addition, the employees are incredibly nice, polite and very upbeat. We sat outside and enjoyed the ships that leave the port. The coffee is also great! Perfect
