What Shae Jae doesn't like about The Anchor Inn:
9 good reviews on their chicken Parm made us want to try. Frozen Chicken patties smothered in cheese is NOT good chicken Parm. The ziti had peppercorn in it and the noodles were stuck together in clumps. Service was good, food was not worth the trip. This was my first time dining at this restaurant and I was disappointed to learn that they will be closing soon. Despite this, I decided to try the lasagna and I was extremely pleased with my choice. The portion size was substantial, the dish was served piping hot, and it was absolutely delicious.
Chicken parm is where it's at!!!!!!! Laid back simple atmosphere- nothing fancy- but the chicken parm is great!
Great place for a cozy dinner after a day at the beach. People are so great here, you feel like family. The food is tasty and portions are huge. Will definitely come back when in town.
We finally gave the Anchor Inn a try it's amazing that a place only open 6 days a week from 5 to 10 for 60 years can provide such lackluster food. Below average is my observation. Now that is to say the food is edible but there is no passion, no artistry. It's a phoned in phony Italian food restaurant. If you don't care about spices and seasoning this place should be fine for you. The portions are decent the service was just fine. The decor is 1950's ski lodge with a touch of your grandma's kitchen. Big clunky chairs and tables packed tightly together. They have a full liquor license so you can get beer wine and mixed drinks. The prices were mid to fare. It would be nice if they made a nice tomato sauce but this too seemed to be straight from a can. I hardly noticed any garlic on the garlic bread but it like the entrees were doused in huge gobs I'd chewy mozzarella. It's safe to say with very few eateries in Union Beach the Anchor Inn is here to stay but far from my choice for my next Italian meal.
Average food. Good service. Unimaginative sangria. Tasted good but very retro. The chicken Parm was good. Baked but a bit too much cheese. Had side order of spaghetti which was plentiful but the sauce was bland. The mixed seafood platter was good. It came with 3 large scallops, 3 large shrimp, and a few mussels. Side order of pasta was same as above. Bland sauce. The dinners came with salad which was really nice with thin sliced onions and a really nice tomato. My blue cheese dressing was good. But the balsamic was just that. The bottle of balsamic vinegar was put on the table. No oil. No seasonings. Just the bottle of balsamic. Our favorite waitress surprised us by being there. We know her from our breakfasts at Sylvios. The value for the dollar just isn't there. I don't think I will be returning.
