Place is authentic, the staff speaks English, but if you can speak Spanish, that would be a plus. The food was crazy. It is authentic if you don't know what is authentic Mexican, do not expect any Tacoglocke or other almost Mexican foods. I honestly don't know where the high ratings are coming from. But to be fair, I've never tasted the food: First timer... I called to place an order for pick up. The guy put the phone down and never picked it back up. I waited, listening to all the background noise for a bit, disconnected and called back but they never put the phone back on the hook? I am very jealous of the other houses and apartments on the 1st St., which now have El Ranchero as their neighbor. They are specialized as Taqueria, with a variety of options to choose from. They also make cemitas, burritos, enchiladas and even pizza. The owner is very friendly and will help you navigate the menu as well as suggest other dishes from the menu. You cannot go wrong with their Tacos al pastor (marinated pig with pineapple, cilantro, onions). The salsa verde and salsa roja are both excellent accompaniment to the tacos. I was in the mood for an authentic Mexican food and el ranchero taqueria is in my neighborhood, so I thought I would give it a try!! I'm so happy! We ordered Tacos, Enchiladas and Quesadillas with Salsa Verde!! Everything was ordered with fresh ingredients!!! Love it!! My favorite was the chicken enchiladas!! We're coming back!
I worked very long with the owner in another restaurant in the area that has since closed. While he worked, he always made authentic Mexican dishes and they were always amazing, I was there tonight and his food is just as fresh and tasty as I remember. I am so glad that I can go there and taste his food agian, absolute perfection!
Although the menu was limited because they only open and wait until the food supply comes into the tacos we were made with care and tasty. I definitely go back to try other dishes when they have the full menu!!!
Legit the best tacos I’ve had in NJ!! A must-go! My sister and I went back for seconds right after we finished our first round.
