it must be 35-40 years since I visited the sun inn in bassenthwaite and I must say that I was not disappointed. a beautiful pub in just as beautiful environment. an extensive menu is available and I found the Steak Pie very nice to be in the did. also the beautiful selection of ales, the cumberland ale complicated the cake very well. a great stop-off point for traveling and wandering alike. in any case recommend. The personal was amazing, the place was clean and welcoming, and eating was absolutely delicious! Definitiw a worthwhile stop for everyone after a dead bite to eat in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. the local ales are delicious, and the menu offers for everyone from carnivore to vegan, great spread!
Went midweek and the pub was pretty busy so it is worth booking in advance. eating was okay. I had the black and black pudding burger, the tasty and a good portion size, price to about £16. my partner had the chicken and lauch cake that was not so good. it was boiled to the house, but seemed to have been heated again, as the baked was hard and the sauce was a little dry. I think that was about £16. we had to start the baked camembert, which was perfect. we did not dissert because we ate our full, and despite the dead we enjoyed the evening. the service was very good and the team friendly and helpful. I would imagine if my partner had mentioned the easy problem with the cake, it would have been sorted quickly. She said it was delicious.
Stayed nearby so very handy for Sunday Birthday lunch. We'll worth a visit. Big car park across the lane. Outdoor seating with great view. Inside is a classic pub. Spacious and full of character. Sunday lunch was great and considering the struggles hospitality has suffered, very reasonable for 5 people. Attentive service. Can't fault them. Dogs allowed and tourist, walkers and family friendly. Recommended.
Just enjoyed great fish and chips (our Friday night tradition). Fish is cooked in beer batter light and crispy, not at all oily (which is sometimes the case these days). Served with chunky chips and garden peas. Has to be the best we've had for a long time. Add to this friendly staff and a good selection of beers and you come away feeling that you've had a good night out. Thank you The Sun Inn.
