Contribute FeedbackNestled near the Science Museum, the Hoop and Toy offers a mix of dining experiences that leave patrons divided. While some rave about its excellent food, friendly staff, and clean ambiance, others criticize the quality of dishes like bangers and mash and fish finger sandwiches, describing them as poorly executed and unappetizing. The atmosphere, albeit lively, has been noted as feeling impersonal, and décor updates are needed. Despite these mixed reviews, the pub's convenient location and quick service appeal to many, making it a popular spot for post-visit drinks. Ultimately, diners should approach with tempered expectations.
Amazing location but really awful pub. Buzzy atmosphere downstairs but poor decor. Needs seriously updating. Upstairs function room feels like a grubby student bar. My girlfriend asked for soda and fresh lime and it came with a tiny tiny slice of lime which shows serious lack of care.
Good english pub with a good variety of dishies. Very good fish and ships and hamgurgers. The room decoration isn't the strong argument of this pub. The stuff is very nice.
Went in for drinks before theatre. All ages and nice atmosphere. Didnt eat. Just liked the history and casual atmosphere considering the area. I felt in country. So nice. Hope to come back.
Called in today after the science museum. Ordered bangers and mash and peas for me and fish finger sandwich for my wife. Sausages were like solid leather and the mash was powdered watery and cold. No peas at all, instead cold watery limp cabbage. I...thought it was a child's portion. All accompanied with the smallest jug of gravy, which was cold. My wife ordered a fish finger sandwich and the bread was thickened with tartar sauce witch my wife does not like at all. My drink was a pint of lime and soda, my wife's, a pint of coke both were flat and three quarters full of ice. All for I'm from Newcastle upon Tyne, and if that was served where I'm from it would have been thrown back over the bar. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. ZERO OUT OF TEN.
Went with my companion to this pub today for a spot of lunch, ordering sausages and mash for her and steak ale pie for myself. What we got was sausages made out of old boots probably left over from the Victorian era, and a...pie with so much salt I’d wager I could float in it if I was shrunk down to pie size proportions. Top notch tap water though!!
