I 'm so happy we finally tried Sushi King! We used to frequent Xena, but unfortunately it closed, and we 've been looking for a good, nearby sushi spot ever since. We found it. Sushi King has great quality for the low all you can eat price that you pay. You can select from a ton of different regular rolls, specialty rolls, salads, sides and ice cream. I can 't remember everything we ordered but it was a mixture of di... View all feedback.
What Paul H doesn't like about Sushi King:
As they often say, the key to great sushi is in the rice. Here is where this place completely fails. The rice tastes too vinegary/sour and quite a bit mushy. The other key to good sushi is good quality fish. Another point where this place fails. The tuna was just not good. It wasn't even red, just an off-pink. Yuck. Unfortunately, there's not very many options in the area for decent sushi. Shame. View all feedback.
I explored the area on Yelp after my fav Sushi joint, Xena, closed recently. I ordered the Dinner Box Deluxe for takeout from SK- it came with two Shrimp tempura, two veggie tempura, nine, pieces of sashimi, nine beef negimaki, a fair nortion of chicken teriyaki, a small amount of veggies/carrots and a mound of white rice, along with miso soup and a basic salad. A good value for about $20. The sashimi was fresh and tasty- three pieces each of tuna, salmon and a white fish. The negimaki was very good if a little inartfully presented. All tempura was fried and seasoned well. I will be back!
I'd like to consider myself a sushi expert. As I'm moving to the east coast, I was sad to be missing quality sushi. My family here took me to Sushi King because they really liked it, and I'm glad to say that I enjoyed it as well! The teriyaki chicken and chicken Katsu made me feel like I was back home in Hawaii. The ahi (tuna) sashimi and sushi was great! I could tell it was good quality fish, and was cut nicely. I also got a hand-rolled ahi avocado sushi and gyoza. The gyoza was perfectly crispy but still soft and the meat was a good consistency. The sauce that came with the gyoza was perfect and not too sweet or sour. The hand-rolled sushi was just a little bland, but it was nothing a little soy sauce (shoyu) couldn't handle! They had Yamasa shoyu which is a brand I've never heard of, but it tasted like any generic shoyu you can get back home. It wasn't as good as Kikoman shoyu, but nothing really is! The restaurant was empty when we got there so there was extremely fast service. The man was so nice and knew my aunty since she goes there frequently. Now I know where to go to when I'm homesick! I know I have family and a good restaurant to go to when in New Jersey.
Been back since first review and have the same complaints: 1. Nigiri sushi pieces are not uniform and their rice is not well formed. Rolls are poorly formed (big overlap at the seem, bad rice/fish ratio, fish pieces not identical). These are essential components to good sushi! 2. Service they straight up ignore you unless every single morsel is cleaned from your plate or your make a very overt signal for their attention (HEY YOU, WAITER GUY). I respect the please do not waste food, however you should make it more tasty so I will be more inclined to eat it...
Very good sushi for the All-You-Can-Eat price. We come here very often and always have great service. The sushi is always very fresh. The rolls come out quickly and they have very good options. The spicy crabmeat salad and the King's Roll are the best!
I'm thrilled that we finally decided to give Sushi King a try! We used to go to Xena regularly, but after it closed, we have been on the hunt for a good sushi place nearby. We've definitely found it at Sushi King. The quality of the food is fantastic for the low price of their all-you-can-eat option. There’s an impressive selection of regular rolls, specialty rolls, salads, sides, and even ice cream. I can't recall everything we ordered, but we enjoyed a mix of various rolls, shumai, pork katsu, seaweed salads, and crab salads. Everything was delicious, and you really can't beat the $20 price point. The service was also quick and friendly. Since we live so nearby, we will unquestionably be returning!
