Nestled downtown, this cozy, owner-run wine bar showcases an exceptional selection of local Okanagan and international wines guided by a highly knowledgeable sommelier, with tasty vegan and gluten-free options and regular live jam sessions. The intimate setting and curated tastings appeal to wine lovers and small groups, though guests report inconsistent food quality, very slow service at peak events, occasional payment issues, and a modest cover/event fee — factors worth weighing against an otherwise memorable tasting experience.
We attended an event that cost $30.00 per person. Although the wine was enjoyable, the appetizers were quite disappointing. They consisted of only raw broccoli, raw zucchini, raw apples, olives, mushrooms, and some inedible bread. I won’t be going back!
I have NEVER experienced service like this before. A group of five friends and I went out to celebrate a special occasion before heading to a show. We started by ordering some wine, but unfortunately, they only had two bottles available that were chilled. When we got there, we were the only table in the restaurant. We ordered olives, hummus, a cheese plate, and two salads. It took 25 minutes for the olives to arrive, an hour for the hummus, and an astonishing 2.5 hours for the cheese plate. Shockingly, our salads never arrived at all. While we received a few excuses, we did not get an apology. I was able to pay with a credit card, but the others who tried to pay with debit faced significant issues.
There was also a $20 cover charge per person, which felt fair given the quality of entertainment at this intimate venue. However, it's somewhat rare for a downtown spot to have such a fee. I think that better advertising could have drawn in a larger audience, as Kelowna could definitely use more effective promotion for important events. Overall, it was an intriguing experience, but I can't see myself returning anytime soon.
Danielle at Buvez is incredibly knowledgeable about wines. With her extensive training, she can help you quickly discover a new favorite. I had the opportunity to sample both local and imported wines, and I was impressed by the quality of many local wines from the Okanagan Valley—they can truly stand alongside the best in the world. They are absolutely delicious. Cheers!
