Description

Tucked into a Keizer plaza, this unassuming pool bar delivers unexpectedly excellent food alongside a lively, spacious atmosphere. Chef-driven burgers, steaks and salads pair with a full bar and well-maintained billiards, making it a go-to for casual nights, groups and friendly competitions. Staff are quick and welcoming; a covered outdoor smoking area and family-friendly hours (kids until 8pm with food) add flexibility. Not fine dining, but consistently satisfying comfort fare and a social vibe keeps locals coming back.

The food was incredible, and the staff was incredibly friendly. This restaurant surpassed all my expectations for Bar Essen. You definitely need to give it a try!

My friend and I had planned to visit Thai Lotus, but after waiting 15 minutes past their posted opening time with no one showing up, we decided to head to Kolby's instead. It was my first time there, and I was quite impressed. I ordered the 9 Ballburger, which is the house standard—a 1/3 lb burger with two slices of bacon and your choice of cheese (I went with Swiss) on an imperial bun. It comes with boiler chips, though you can pay extra for other potato options or a salad (I opted to stick with the chips). The burger was excellent; it didn’t have any flashy toppings or sauces, but sometimes that's exactly what I crave. The service was quick and friendly, making it an enjoyable lunch experience overall.

We have enjoyed this place each time my boys and I stop. American bar food is fair to middlin'. The real attraction is the dozen or so billiards tables, open floor plan, and friendly service that we receive each time. If you're wondering, kids are okay until 8pm so long as you order some food. I do my best to keep them down to a small roar seeing as how this place really is for the adults and I won't take for granted any place that I can enjoy a Black Opal while coaching on the finer points in life over a friendly game of pool.
