Clean restaurant with a simple menu serving fish and chips. The portions are big, one piece of fish (halibut or haddock) with fries enough for lunch. Decent service. Primarily seniors. View all feedback.
What crackerssouth doesn't like about Captain Georges Fish & Chips:
How cheap can you get . Went for the lunch special this week and when it came all I had was 1 fish and chips. When I said where is the cole slaw that always came with it, I was told I could buy it for an additional cost, it is no longer included. Seriously $13.95 for i piece of fish and chips, lesson learned, no more Georges, there are plenty of other places in Lindsay. View all feedback.
We stopped in for dinner prior to going to a show. The food itself was excellent but to be honest we both thought the portions were small. I also had ordered a salad to go with my fish on a bun and fries but apparently there was a misunderstanding because I didn't get my fries (I didn't say anything, we were on a schedule and we weren't charged for them so I left it alone).I think they need more staff, servers in particular. It was the height of the dinner hour and there was one poor lady trying to look after everyone. Her attitude was a bit brusque but after finding out she'd been there since the opened and was going to be there until closing I completely understood why she wasn't the friendliest. She did manage a few smiles and a bit of conversation as we were getting ready to leave. The 4 stars I gave are not reflective of this hard working lady in any way, shape or form.I'd go back and give it another try.
Ignorant lady that works there yelled at us in front of our children. Will never be going there again.
If you read any of my reviews youll see that I only write good reviews and not the bad ones..until now.My family and I have eaten here many times over the years. Overall, the food has been been consistently good and when we 've had a craving for fish and chips this has been our go-to place. Unfortunately the prices have become ridiculously high for fish which has certainly slowed our trips. .The food was, as always good. Now maybe I 'm wrong but im sure that the portion sizes of fish have shrunk way down in size. If you raise the cost of meals by over 30 percent then maybe the portion sizes should stay the same. All the same, this wouldn 't be cause to get me too upset. It would just make our visits less frequent. We paid (taxes in) $137 for dinner and they added an additional 25 cents to the price for a take out container for our coleslaw. Seriously folks it 's not the quarter but if I 'm spending that kind of money I 'm sure the 25 cents won 't break the bank. To me it 's being chincy. Now comes the service ..and the reason for my bad review. The service we received was absolutely atrocious. Now I consider myself a decent judge of character and tend to let things go when I receive less than adequate service. One of those maybe they 're having the worst day ever but I don 't think today was that day. Today it came off like this is the way she is and if I don 't like it ...oh well, too bad.. as she sucks her teeth (tsk) when we asked for more tartar sauce and a slice of lemon as they only gave us one slice of lemon and one tartar sauce for a 10 piece family dinner. She may have well said what do you want now? Because that 's absolutely the feeling we got when we went there today. We kept looking at each other in disbelief of the service...or lack of and what seemed to us to be the worst service ever.I 've given it a 2 star because the food was still decent. So, in the end, if it 's up to me, we won 't be returning and you won 't receive another dime from me.
Sign states open until 8:00 pm. We walked in at 7:01 pm and got a lady yell at us while we were walking in the door that it's take out only. I guess she didn't want to wash dishes or a table. Poor customer service.
Although not a fancy restaurant, Captain George Lindsay has great food. I often get the battered shrimp and they are huge! We find the prices are competitive, albeit as a whole, seafood has become expensive no matter where you go. I find that compared to the other seafood places in our area, Captain George has the edge on taste, portions and price, but that's my opinion. I think that the only place close to us that has as food as good as Captain George is perhaps Just For The Halibut in Bobcaygeon.
