When I called the city of Kassel at GastroGuide at the end of January to see if there are new locations or posts/evaluations, I was actually found. The restaurant Jakob had registered here. On February 3, the opening should be open. I immediately looked at the homepage: Knallig colorful graffiti walls, swings as seats, a former work bench as table. The kitchen concept says on the homepage: “We invite you to homemade street food with regional ingredients. Fresh burgers in various variants with sauces according to their own recipe are waiting for you. And the best thing: you can choose your own patty with any burger. Special specialties such as sharp Chili con Carne, hearty baguettes and the legendary Jakobs Hot Dog or crisp salads complete the culinary offer. In Jacob there is something for every taste. Enjoy homemade lemonades, innovative kukki cocktails, where the ice is already in the bottle, and freshly imported beer from Bavaria. In addition to the culinary highlights, changing exhibitions of the creative scene Kassels complete your visit perfectly.” The Burger offer attracted me less because I'm not necessarily a Burger fan. Especially the pictures of the ambience of the restaurant had made me very curious. And as I have a Burger friend in Kassel, I called her. She took my proposal enthusiastically (you and Burger? and we agreed at noon. The restaurant is centrally located in the city centre near the main railway station. The house has only a narrow front and you can just walk by. Immediately after the entrance you will find yourself in the middle of the event. Three differently designed rooms are one behind the other. On the right and left side two longer tables, on the right side on a low colorful platform in front of a Graffitti wall, the already mentioned former tool bench with swings and plush ceilings as seat, on the left side an elongate high table with seat shells on correspondingly high wooden frame. On this wall there is also the great graffiti image that impressed me so and that I could not photograph because the table was full. On the operating side here at GG you can look at this. [here link] The implementation of the bright furniture concept was in the hands of the well-known Kassel Graffiti artist Dustin Schenk from the artist initiative KolorCubes. In the middle room there are two tables in front of a brick wall that looks simple and gripping. From these tables you can look directly into the open kitchen and another colorful wall. It looks fresh and munter. In the back room are not the walls brightly colored, but the chairs, seat shells made of hard plastic, in which you can sit comfortably. We took a second table in the middle room, the menu is already on the table and we look at it. It is made of solid cardboard, beautifully designed and very small for me. Everything is freshly prepared. The value is placed on high-quality regional beef. In addition to mustard and ketchup, all sauces are homemade and the rolls are baked according to their own recipe by a local traditional bakery. Pattys have a gross weight of 150 g. I decide for a burger, my second burger in Germany, for the burger BBC (Barbecue Bacon Cheese with BBQ sauce, salad, tomatoes, bacon, cheese, caramelized onions for 7,90 €. Instead of bread, I can also choose a salad, and that is exactly what I do. My accompaniment wants the Burger Classic – cheese with sauce, salad, tomatoes, red onion rings, spice cucumbers, cheese of choice for 7,20 €. Then we go to the counter to our order, the two burgers, a part of the homemade Wedge Potatoes (2.20 € for both of us and twice a half-liter bottle Cola for each 2.80 €. Several questions were asked: Which rabbit, which cheese, which attracts on my salad. We don't have to wait until we get our burgers in front of us. This looks very appetizing on the black plates. My girlfriend is very popular from her Classic Burger with Cheddar cheese, the bread crispy, the meat medium boiled and very juicy, the sauce spicy, slightly sharp, everything super. “When I’m close, I’m sure I’m going back here,” she says. Hamburger ohne Bun, for this with salad Also my burger tastes very good without rolls. Also my patty juicy, the spices as expected good, abundant crispy bacon to him, spicy cheddar cheese, the BBQ sauce exactly my taste. Only the glazed onions are too sweet to me personally. I liked the colourful salad even better. All fresh and crisp, various leaf salads, pepper strips, tomato chips, cucumber, corn, red onion rings. Honey mustard dressing very creamy and only so much that the well mixed salad will not be beaten by the sauce. Homemade Potatoes Wedges The wedges with the right degree of tanning, crispy and inside soft, pleasantly seasoned, everything fits. Every week there are changing highlights, the weekly star for 8,90 €, e.g. “Cobbed Seeteufelburger in Santiago de Chile style with lime chimichurri” or “Meatballs Israeli style with baguette, green salad and mint dressing”. The Hessian Radio presented Jakobs as a secret tip in a short article: [here link] Conclusion: Outstanding ambience, very good quality, reasonable prices, open employees facing the guest. I'll be back!
