A beautiful ocean front restaurant at the very chic Montage Resort at Kapalua on the North Shore of Maui. Not only is the setting wonderful, but the food and the wait staff are extraordinary. You are met with great courtesy and the dishes are presented with great flair by a gracious happy and unstuffy set of servers. The menu is not vast, but the dishes are exquisite. What stan smith doesn't like about Cane Canoe:
Normally, Brunch at the Montage is exceptional, but not this time. Service was beyond slow. We had to wait almost 15 minutes for our waiter to come to the table and then another 15 minutes just for the juice and coffee. When the food arrived is was only lukewarm, not hot. Considering there were only three other table occupied in the restaurant, this was inexcusable. Overall, a very dissappointing experience. View all feedback.
The scallops appetizer was divine (and so much better than a salad! I had the lamb loin and my husband had the fillet. Both cooked to perfection. Some might find the portions on the smaller side but they were perfect for us and typical of fine dining. Nice spacing between the courses to savor and settle before the next. The live music was a perfect touch to our sunset anniversary dinner. The staff and service were wonderful as well. Mahalo!
Food was inedible and Service was terrible. No waiter available to bring or open wine Overcooked Scallops, with rubber ball texture. Undercooked, semi raw Shrimp. Overcooked Maui Fish tough as shoe leather. Waiter and Maitre D stood around talking to each other. Absoutly no service. We paid for our wine and entree and left.
We had a breakfast here and it was good, we had a dinner here and it was one of the best meals we have ever had…the views, the service, the food was all great.
I told my server that I was lactose intolerant so he could guide me through the menu as to what I should avoid. He said that everything could be adjusted so I selected the seared ahi even though I confirmed with him the mashed potatoes had cream in them. He comes back and says that the mashed potatoes have cream in them and asks if I want to sub for rice. I said sure. He then comes back and says the the au poivre has cream. He asks if I want something different and choose something else (I don't remember what). Two minutes later the ahi comes out without the au poivre sauce but with some sweet mango sauce. The server comes back out and says that the chef misunderstood. Rather than wait for another entree I just eat the ahi with the sweet sauce. It isn't a good pairing but I'm hungry and honestly just want to leave.
Been there several times before and loved it. Not so much this time. Service was very inattentive. Food was generally good but my main dish (scallops) had an off flavor. I didn’t complain to them so can’t hold it too much against them.
