What Aaron Mayr-Mauhart doesn't like about Afuri Ramen Dumpling:
1 singular piece of meat with your bowl of ramen. The venue and space is large and there is not nearly enough staff to tend to the tables. The ramen is largely unmemorable except for the fact that despite the price premium, you only get 1 piece of meat with your bowl of ramen.I find this juxtaposition entirely unpalatable.
This location exemplifies why restaurant week is a necessity- it creates repeat customers through an invitation to try new cuisines. I had the Yuzu ramen which I believe is their signature. The yuzu citrus flavors came out delicately and paired nicely with the sesame oil and pork. The Tantan was delightful to look at and had a wonferful blend of flavors. While a savory dish, no ingredient was too overpowering- especially the ginger! Our appetizers consisted of tori carrageand crispy gyoza! Both were delicious, especially their yuzu egg salad. Overall, this place was a delight for lunch. The asthetic is also beautiful. Matthew provided some great service!
Ramen was good, but wasn?t amazing. The noodles were great, and the broth is good, depending on whether you like yuzu or not in your ramen. I think the shio ramen had a much stronger yuzu taste than the tsukemen (dipping ramen). Karaage tasted good but definitely not worth the price. Pretty mediocre for $2 a piece. Ebi (shrimp) spring roll was extremely greasy and again quite underwhelming. I think for the price and expectations, the experience was underwhelming. Servicewas fast, but none of the waiters ever checked up on our table. Water is self service. Street parking in arts district isn?t so great. I think it?s worth trying the yuzu ramen once, but I don?t think I?ll be back again.
Still think Afuri is a good addition to the Arts district, I 'm not a big fan of yuzu usually, but the yuzu ramen there was pleasantly good! My go-to is the Yuzu-tsyua tsukemen (dipping noodles) and yuzu ratan (spicy chicken broth). Yuzu shio (clear chicken broth) is also good when you 're craving something not heavy. I feel like it 's good to have it when you 're under the weather. In fact, yuzu shio is one of their signature dishes, the chicken broth is very aromatic, light, and delicious. The in-house handcrafted noodles are something that I really enjoy too. Chashu is also on point, tender and flavorful. But I do wish they could give more slices, there is only one slice in each bowl. If you like gyoza(dumplings), would recommend trying out their spicy gyoza soup. (Yeah dumplings in the soup) Karaage was succulent and good with beer. However, Ninniku shoyu is probably our least favorite. Basically shoyu= soy sauce , we found theirshoyu ramen was on the saltier side. Overall, authentic yuzu ramen place! Order is easy, there are 2 kiosks at the entrance. First come, first serve. Also, they do happy hour everyday from 3pm-6pm! Enjoy.
It?s not bad, but not the best around this area. Food was very quick. Ramen was okay noodle was cooked perfectly but broth and topping was not impressive. I?m not sure adding yuzu flavor on ramen. It was sour, which I don?t like. But I guess some people would like it. karaage and seaweed salad was good too. They will charge you 13% service charge.
I came here for dinner when it first opened and we were a big group. You have to wait to be seated and one of the staff will bring you to a screen to place your order. Once you pay, you?ll be given a wooden stick with a number on it and a wait staff will bring your food and drinks. Wait time for food was around 10-20 minutes. Considering we were a big group of 12 people, the service was fast. Staff here were also super friendly. I highly recommend the yuzu ratan ramen, it?sa little spicy but definitely worth a try. The dumplings here are also amazing. Also tried the cocktails here, they tasted great but nothing too memorable. You come here for ramen and not for the drinks.
