I've been here several times while in town. Once in a large group for dinner, once for lunch and once for drinks on the patio outside. All three times were good. The menu is pretty decent- there are some vegetarian options, large entrees, small plates, etc. I also like that they have daily specials! What Enas B doesn't like about The Union:
Almost Perfect! We ordered Mac and cheese, beef mashroom soup and French fries. The lobster Mac and cheese was super creamy, cheesy and delicious. The beef and mashroom tasted good except there was only few small pieces of beef. Way smaller to call it beef soup. Fris was burned, we ordered another one which It was fine. I am so excited to find a place in town that has live jazz (thanks, yelp! . We went the other night at around 8:30 to listen to music. The comments from fellow yelpers clued me in to the noise level. The jazz group that was playing the night we went was not to my taste, so I'll do a bit more due diligence before heading back for music. Tip: Don't sit too close. It is very loud. That said, we had a lovely time. The waitstaff, while busy, was quite attentive. People were definitely having a good time meeting friends, hanging out, on a date, etc. It is more of a restaurant than a bar, so don't worry about bringing your kids in for a meal (especially if they love live jazz . The walkways within were quite wide, which I appreciate as a sometime wheelchair user. This includes the restroom, which was quite open and easily accessible. Thank you! My husband got the fried pickles (we weren't quite sure what to expect, so had already eaten dinner before we went and enjoyed them. Next time, after perusing the menu, I'll definitely eat in. Extra bonus: from 3-4:49pm on Fridays, all menu items are half off, if you want to test the waters (or save money, and keep going back! . If you don't drink alcohol, there are Coke products, as well as lemonade. I asked about coffee, and told there were two kinds: caf and decaf (UGH . It would be fantastic if they had locally roasted beans, a chemex, and a nice coffee menu to go with the delicious, extensive food and drinks menus. It wouldn't take much time or space, and would welcome non-drinkers a great deal more.
Thanks to Fellow yelper, jessie and her family- we came to this place to enjoy jazz at a wmu combo night. Jessie recommended us lobster fondue which was so good and I'm lactose intolerant . Luckily, my stomach didn't give me trouble after eating it and the next day as well. Lobster fondue was phenomenal with so much bread and it's super fun and shareable with friends and family which we did. It was busy night but we got a great service! If you haven't been to the union to enjoy Jazz have that lobster fondue, you are missing out on life! Tip: order lobster fondue with extra bread and keep asking for more and more!!
Fantastic cocktails and live music! The atmosphere here is both relaxing and energizing. Oh yeah, and they have great food! I've been coming here for years, since I lived in downtown Kalamazoo, and this has remained a favorite to return to over the years. Great spot for a romantic dinner or date, or just for coming out for a cocktail on your own! I'm a huge fan of the mojitos here. Despite usually being packed when I've come in on the weekends, the service is usually speedy and friendly.
