Came for the pie, which was awesome! Cherry-raspberry and banana cream pies were so good, crust was great too. Breakfast options were interesting and tasty; frittatas, scrambles, pancakes. View all feedback.
What Chad H doesn't like about Rykses:
A decent place for Breakfast with a nice store front. Rykse's is probably one of the cleanest and best maintained breakfast places in the Kalamazoo/Portage area, especially considering how busy it is. It can be so busy that there can be a very long wait if you go during peak hours and an even longer wait if the staff is busy with a packed restaurant. The best thing about Ryske's is how nice it looks, but the food, un... View all feedback.
Arrive during the lunch rush, took a bit to get seated but the food was delicious and worth the wait. Great idea to air dinning with a bakery. I was full so will have to come back and try all the lovely looking baked good. To be continued ....
So, first off I need to make my small complaint which took a star off, the menu is a little unclear. I ordered what I thought was a salad with chicken on it, but it was chicken salad (with mayo) on a salad which isn't what I wanted at all so no lunch for me, but they were really cool about it. We were on a super tight time constriction so we got in and out fast. My son had chicken fingers and fries and they were tasty and my husband had a Reuben which he liked. I like that the chips come with dip, it's a nice personal touch. I look forward to coming back and ordering something different next time but I liked everything I grazed off of my family's plates!
I haven't been to Rykse's Restaurant in over 15 years. My office used to be nearby the Stadium location and I ate here all the time. But after our office moved to Portage, I never went there much after that. Today I met some friends for lunch. The nice thing is they take reservations for 6 or more. We walked right in and had to stop and smell the wonderful aromas from the bakery and check out the bakery cases. Our waitress was prompt and courteous. Everyone's order came out timely and with no problems with any of the 10 orders. I had to order my favorite from the good old days The Big Grilled Cheese sandwich. It comes with four cheeses (cheddar, mozzarella, havarti, swiss), tomato, onion and red pepper mayo on their homemade oatmeal bread. I also ordered a bowl of tomato soup. My sandwich and soup were delicious. Comfort food at its best. I certainly won't wait another 15 years before I stop by again. Plus I think the cinnamon rolls are calling my name.
Great place for breakfast. Huge cinnamon rolls, omelettes are big and stuffed full of toppings and cheese. Wait staff is very friendly and stays on top of things. I just wish they had corned beef hash; I can't find this anywhere as a side. I want to try the pies. They look amazing.
We were driving in the area looking for breakfast and we decided to come here. It's well known that it's a busy place and sometimes you have to wait for a table. We gave it a try. We got a table in minutes and our server Josh was very helpful and attentive. I ordered the avocado scrambler and my wife ordered a lite omelette. My son ordered a pancake. The coffee they serve is really good! Not sure where they get it but it's taste is one of the best coffees I've tried in this area. We waited no more than 10 minutes when we had our breakfast ready and OMG! My scramble was delicious! I also took a bite of my son's pancake and it tasted great! On my way out I ordered a cinnamon roll to go and they were sold out! Maybe next time...but we are coming back!
