Pelmeni - Juneau
Pelmeni
Description
Pel’meni, a standout in Juneau’s culinary scene, offers a unique experience that’s both sought after and polarizing. Many rave about the delicious dumplings, particularly the potato variety, served with a range of flavorful toppings that elevate these dishes. Diners appreciate the cozy atmosphere and funky vibe, envisioning it as a perfect late-night haunt. However, some past patrons voice concerns over cleanliness and service, with unfortunate incidents dampening their dining enjoyment. While it can be hit or miss, Pel’meni remains a must-try for anyone in search of authentic Russian flavors amid the varied dining options in Juneau.

The food is to absolutely die for! The two different dumpling options are fantastic. There are not enough tables or chairs but I believe this is to keep people from lingering too long. The atmosphere is SO close to being completely amazing due to the records and the very hole in the wall vibe...however...when we came in the music was blaring SO loudly we nearly left. And when we were in there we couldn't hear the young man taking our orders. We couldn't talk to each other because of how loud it all was. Also the music had lots of foul language and racist phrases and words. It was a wee bit shocking in my opinion.I don't consider myself a prude however I certainly would NEVER take children in there if the music being played that night is on.And as a side note, they use all plastic ware, and styrophom containers for all of their dishes. Nice and cheap however pretty rotten for the environment considering the gorgeous surroundings of nature you find yourself in while staying in Juneau! Hope they can find a slightly better option soon! All in all the the food gets 5 massive stars from me!!! Be sure to try both dumplings and be sure you get ALL the trimmings and get sour cream from the fridge to use with it!My mouth is watering just thinking about it!Yuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!Kid-friendliness: With the type of music being played and at that volume certainly NOT kid friendly!
This laid-back Russian dumpling shop stays open late and offers a no-nonsense experience. They serve just two varieties of dumplings: beef and potato. Each order is garnished with hot sauce and cilantro, accompanied by a side of sour cream. It's surprisingly delightful. I highly recommend giving it a try. You might be a bit doubtful at first, but you'll end up wanting to return for seconds!
This is a locals-described staple drunk food spot. You get 2 options: beef or potato. Then, choose if you want vinegar, hot sauce, curry spice, and sour cream. Intriguing Russian street food.
To be honest, this restaurant was not to my taste. As an Asian, I read all the positive reviews and thought I was in for a great experience, but I ended up disappointed by the food. If you grew up enjoying simple dishes like spaghetti with butter or mac and cheese and still love them today, you might appreciate this. However, for me, the gnocchi was overcooked and lacked seasoning and spice. It was extremely bland, and even the sour cream couldn't improve it. I'm really sorry, but I won’t be returning.
This place is kind of a dive but the Russian dumplings are awesome. Great place to hit up after the bar, they are open super late. Service can be slow as they only have one person working behind the counter. So I had to wait 30 minutes for my dumplings. I get both the potato and the meat and have them put all of the fixings. Curry powder hot sauce etc. I love them with a touch of sour cream. I get them whenever I'm in Juneau. The bears seem to like them also as one chased me when I was carrying a bag full of them back to my hotel at 2 a.m.
