Restaurant Barca - Joliette

I was thrilled to visit this restaurant because I know that authentic Portuguese cuisine is exceptional and brings back memories of my grandmother's home cooking.

The appetizers were superb. The octopus, tuna tartare, and sardines were all outstanding.

I used to love this restaurant in Montreal, but on my recent visit a few weeks ago, it seems like they have slipped in quality.

I think I got the last table one Friday night and the wait staff asked if i was in a hurry. I appreciate that but didn't really notice any slowness in either the service or the food arrival. I ordered Tatare and a steak. I got grilled octopus instead of Tatare (which I love and it was cooked lightly, just the way I like it). The steak was excellent but a touch on the small side. They bought me a soup. They brought me a desert. I ordered a wine of their recommendation for the appetizer and was surprised when they brought me a delightful white (expecting Tatare) but it worked great with the octopus. I had a nice Spanish Cab with the steak, (2 glasses). I ended up getting charged for just the steak and the drinks. Not a budget place but I thought the food was excellent for the price. Friendly service. I'll be back.
