Reviews - Murphy's
Reviews summary
Renowned for its unforgettable wings, this cozy Johnstown bar delivers a memorable dining experience. While the menu skews heavily towards meat, vegetarians can enjoy a selection of salads. Friendly service enhances the atmosphere, making it a great spot for families, despite limited kid-friendly options and parking challenges. Diners rave about the crispy, flavorful wings—often served piping hot—paired perfectly with hot sauce. Although some critics find inconsistency in flavor, many return for the inviting ambiance, prompt service, and a menu that extends beyond wings, including a standout fish sandwich and delicious fries.

As iconic as the floods of Johnstown, Murphys wings are a must have. For 30 plus years I have eaten and had libations at Murphys and I think every single time I was greeted by the owner. Not in many places does that happen. This is not a franchise, it stands for the hard work and dedication that this town was built on. You get the sense that you are back in the hey dey of the mills when you stop by as everyone is friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming and unassuming. There is not a word I can say that describes Murphys but there aren't enough words to say how good it is.
Dry “wings” with a DC price. The price point doesn’t match the quality of the product. The Boulevard Grill has these beat by a mile.
I've always had a wonderful experience at Murphy's! I've been enjoying wings and cold drinks here since the mid-70s, back when it was still called Faranda's.
On Tuesday, we arrived at 11:45 AM and found the entire dining room empty, allowing us to play classical music on our phone without bothering anyone. We anticipated the local workforce would show up for lunch, but that didn’t occur. My partner is a huge fan of Murphy’s gigantic wings, so we make a point to visit from State College every now and then. This time, I decided to break from our usual routine and ordered a pizza, which turned out to be fantastic. I definitely recommend ordering more food than you think you'll need for some generous leftovers!

This restaurant has great business. I would rate it a perfect 10 out of 10. They serve uniquely amazing chicken wings—definitely a must-try! Half a dozen wings paired with a pitcher of Yuengling is exactly what you need.
Nothing fancy but the food was great..Bacon cheeseburgers and Cheesesteaks was what we ordered and they were delish Sraff was very friendly.
My boyfriend and I shared a Philly cheesesteak along with some wings, and everything was incredible! The wings were delicious, and the cheesesteak was truly one of the best I've had in a long time.
The best broken wings in Johnstown! This was the first restaurant I visited when I moved here in 2000. Even though I don't live nearby anymore, if you're looking for amazing battered wings, this is the spot to go. I honestly can’t recall what else they serve because whenever I’m here, I just order wings and a cold beer!

The best battered wings in Johnstown! This was the first restaurant I visited when I moved here in 2000. Even though I don't live nearby anymore, this is still the go-to spot for amazing battered wings. Honestly, I couldn't even tell you what else is on the menu—when I go there, it's all about the wings and a cold beer!
This is truly the best spot for wings! The breading is what really makes them stand out. Just make sure to break them open to let them cool a bit before diving in (they're incredibly hot). And don’t forget to add some hot sauce and garlic salt for an extra kick!
I’m committed to supporting local businesses, and Murphy’s is a prime example. While their wings are famously exceptional, I’ve ventured beyond them after multiple visits and found every dish just as impressive. Highlights for me include the Philly Salad and the Pizza Steak Hoagie. From the moment you walk in, the welcoming and friendly staff make you feel right at home, giving off a warm, “Cheers”-style atmosphere. The restaurant is clean and family-friendly, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal or a drink. Murphy’s is definitely a place worth visiting.
The wings at Murphy's are absolutely amazing! They come in a full wing and drumette combo, and they're huge. Cooked perfectly, these wings are a real treat. The staff is wonderful—very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend trying these wings. Although they may seem like simple breaded wings, they're incredibly juicy and flavorful. You won’t be disappointed!

I had a large takeout order last night and it was perfect! Everything was packaged to ensure it stayed crispy and delicious. The wings were absolutely fantastic, as expected. The pizza, burger, fries, and cheese sticks were all just as tasty as when enjoyed in-house. Thank you for the excellent food, meticulous attention to detail, and outstanding service!
