**Dining at Hei Place: A Mixed Bag of Experiences** Hei Place offers a vibrant dining atmosphere, but reviews reveal a stark difference in food quality and service. While some patrons praise the restaurant for its fresh, healthy dishes and friendly service, others have encountered disappointing entrees lacking essential components like rice, and inconsistent preparation that left meals bland. Many frequent visitors rave about the inventive sushi and exceptional staff, likening the experience to a beloved community hub. However, concerns about portion sizes and occasional food quality have led some diners to seek out alternative options. Overall, Hei Place presents a variety of experiences that could sway diners either way.

The food is fresh. Very light and even fried food is never greasy. No MSG. very healthy. Impeccably clean. Service always outstanding. I go there frequently. Drinks are reasonable and made very well.

Don't be deceived by the attractive interior; the food is quite disappointing and the portion sizes are minimal. We ordered takeout from Hei Place twice: first for sushi and then for Chinese. The sushi rolls were comically small—about the thickness of a quarter—and they were poorly constructed, falling apart when picked up. Since our first order coincided with a holiday, we decided to give their Chinese food a try, hoping for better results, but it was even worse. The chicken and broccoli had a stale taste and were heavily flavored with burnt garlic. If you order the dinner special, expect over half the container to be filled with "pork fried rice," leaving you with only a cup-sized serving of the actual main dish. The "pork fried rice" was unpleasant and contained questionable gray meat. We ended up discarding it. Additionally, the "General Tso's Shrimp" was just odd.

The positives: the service is consistently good, and the salt and pepper shrimp (with shells) is a highlight. When Hei Place first reopened, I wasn't impressed with the food, but it improved significantly after we spoke to the owner, who mentioned his old cooks were back. Unfortunately, it seems they are gone again or there's a different chef working on Mondays. The tom yum soup, which used to be the best in the state, was incredibly bland this time and even had a piece of bone in it—quite unappetizing! The waitress didn’t address our concerns, and we ended up paying for everything. The fried rice was dry, overcooked, and flavorless, while the beef looked and tasted old. We ordered the Thai chicken wings to go, but for $12, the six pieces felt more like three wings compared to other places. There were no jalapeños or scallions, and the wings were dry and tough. It’s disappointing because we used to enjoy dining here, but with tight finances, I’ll now take my business to Red Rice or Asia Grill, where the food is fresher and much better!
