Great variety of clothing and merchandise! The place is clean, the prices are reasonable, and the customer service is outstanding.
The exchange is clean, well-stocked, and easy to navigate. It primarily serves military personnel, so supporting it will help increase the variety of options available. Keep in mind that shipping to Alaska can be expensive, which should be factored into the prices. Overall, the exchange is mainly intended for post residents, rather than travelers. However, if you are visiting, there are some lovely selections of Alaskan products available. Note that the food court and the mall are separate facilities.
This time, the service was lacking, particularly in the Food Court area. Unless you enjoy watching wildlife roaming around while you eat overpriced, unappetizing food from places like Popeyes or Charlie’s, or dealing with hairy sandwiches from Starbucks, it can be quite off-putting. On the bright side, there are options like Jeepney, Subway, and Grizzly Donuts. Unfortunately, the rodent population is quite an issue. However, the main Exchange is a standout; it’s always clean and well-stocked with everything you could possibly want.
The main exchange here is one of the worst I've been to in my 24 years in service. Stocks are inadequate, selections are subpar compared to other overseas exchanges, and the customer service is horrible. Be prepared to wait to checkout while they decide if they want to help you. I've always shopped at the BX wherever I've been stationed or TDY but this one isn't good and I avoid if at all possible.
They do have retail items lower than at retail stores off base but you have to know your pricing. Really know your pricing! Mom likes making purchases here. We went for a waterproof mattress pad but couldn't find one in a Queen Size. We ended up buying wine liquor, beer and wine are better priced here and we needed white wine for a rock fish recipe. We got some trash bags for a specialty trash can and some laundry supplies. We've gotten dishes and glassware here and some appliances and cookware. A lot of consumer goods are priced well and the have a good selection of electronics, makeup and named brand fashion. Some exchanges are higher end selling Tag Heuer watches, pearls and high end jewelry. They have a decent jewelry department. This Exchange is good. Been to higher end too, but Anchorage is a smaller city compared to others. Watch your prices and good shopping if you can get on base.
